Gather's New Changes

I like the new changes. I'm glad to have the ability to remove comments - though really, I've only had a couple of comments that I would have removed were I able back-when. They were personal attacks that had nothing to do with the article in question and were very inappropriate. 

 And as far as posting an article and allowing no comments or ratings -  I can't see myself using that very often, but it's nice to have the option. 

The interface for choosing groups to publish to is now a lot easier for me to navigate. 

 So all-in-all, I say good job, Gather!

I hope that someday they update the article editor to have more functions. I'd like to be able to increase my text size , change the text color, and have more formatting options at the touch of a button. I think that'd be sweet.

haven't tried much of it yet other than three attempts to upload images (as my icon) which have been unsuccessful.

and since each image no longer has 'make this my icon' with them i don't have that option--so now i'm icon-free just as my 'poem' of the other day says! sigh.
I don't care for the way you choose which groups to publish to, it takes so long.

I don't make a big deal about the points, but I've posted two articles and have received - oh - about one point in the process. It would be nice if they were a little less stingy with the points.

Laura I am with you but I do like the no ratings feature. I used it the first article Posted after it was available, mostly because it was a think piece, if I am going to get a grade of 1 to 10 on a paper, I want a full explanation. So, comments open, ratings closed. Other types of material I will decide case by case.

Lol...if you hadn't posted this, I wouldn't have known about any of the updates besides the removing comments. xD I'll be uploading something in a second, but I really don't think that the updates are bad...may be helpful. I guess we'll have to see.

Ugh I dislike the group interface. I have 49 pages of groups smashed into this tiny little box and waiting for it to magically appear in the box is way slower than checking a box off.

I like the no refresh to add another comment. I like the deleting a comment process better, but for the other options I don't really think I'll use them. Maybe nice to have it, but I never had issues with bad comments before.

I've also been getting Apache errors off and on since. (Twice now that I've seen) and it takes a while for the site to come back up.

ooh...I'd like to be able to change the size and color of my text too. As for the rest of the changes....eh....they're okay. =)

I like the new updates, and I think that it's a lot easier to publish to the groups now! Also, I have never needed to remove a comment, but if the need arises, I can now! I don't think I will be using the button to turn off comments and ratings though, (unless that db one person starts doing that to my stuff).

Well, let's see. I like the comment change. But it's been quite a day. I've never had so many error screens and been logged out so much since I've been here. Kind of frustrating. Then I discovered that all of my settings had been changed and I was getting notices about everything and everyone. Since last night, I had gotten over 5,000 emails from Gather!!!! Not good. Then I tried posting an article and it took 5 tries to get that through.

For the record, I like the group change. Didn't publish, but I played with it and it's a lot better than the ticky boxes. Still wish they'd come up with a way to let us group appropriate groups together, but this is definitely better than scrolling down a long page of ticky boxes.

Me too!

As to not having to refresh between comments....Matt, why would you think iit fishy? I think its great! Some people like to reply individually to each comment (I don't, I try to answer all the comments I see at one time in one reply) - and before the upgrade, they had to refresh the page between each reply.

I like the changes. The ability to delete comments on your articles will be handy for a couple of trolls that have been harasssing me. I wish they had a spell check and the ability to edit your remarks. I would not look so much like a 2d grader at times.

I think Gather is doing a terrific job in trying to make all of us happy. So many people with so many differing opinions...that's a tough one!

As far as I am concerned, anyone who censors their comments or ratings is a coward and not worth reading. If you don't want people's responses, you shouldn't be publishing in an open forum. We can't get the porn off our screens without missing 90% of the articles, but we can remove any comment we don't like. Puh-leese.

I agree about the groups, it takes entirely to long to choose them, the other way was better in my opinion.

I guess the changes are fine. I have no strong feelings either way. I wish there were a way to select group and leave them selected. You know, the ones you post to almost every time and then leave the rest there to click on when you need them.

I'm not a fan of change. I would like them to fix it so I can get to my points. I don't think I'd use the delete or forbid comments. I usually ignore what I don't like. I didn't have a problem with the way groups were selected before. Doesn't bother me now.

I keep having to login again and keep getting kicked out. Some friends haven't been able to post or comment. I hope they fix those things which are much more important.

I've had a few glitches today, as usual. But I like the changes so far. The list of groups is nice for me because I'm selective about which I publish too, and I can finds things easier with an alphabetical list.

I wish there was something under the "articles" header that said "for me" as well as "by me."

Hmmm! Just logged on after noticing I am now - after over 3 months of not - receiving my notifications!! YIPPEE!!! That's a good change!

Until seeing this article I didn't even know about the changes, thanks for the heads-up. I think the being able to remove comments is an okay idea, although I don't see myself using it too often. As for the other stuff, I haven't had time to investigate.

ooh...just thought of another change I'd like to see. A time stamp so you can see what time the last comment was made on all the posts. Most times I'll leave a question for someone and the thread gets buried and I forget I commented and don't get back to the original thread until days later! wow...that was a long sentence. Did it even make sense?? :-P

If I could choose... I'd like to see what everyone rated. I want to know who's giving me 1's, so I'd know not to bother reading anything they wrote. I like reading other people's stuff, especially people who like mine. :) I just wish I had enough time to get to everyone's, and knowing who not to bother with would help.

I'm in a contest where we're not permitted to delete comments... and in round 1, that was okay, there weren't any nasty ones, but round 2... there are a few I'd like to delete! In the case of a contest, I don't like leaving their comments there to influence other people who might actually like my chapter.

I haven't seen the rest of the changes, so I can't really comment on those.

Lauren I understand what you mean, but turn-about is not fair play. You're always going to have someone spiteful enough to put you down (even after you're published). You just have to shrug it off (believe me, I feel like I've dislocated a shoulder half the time--haha) Just take pride in your work and knowing you have a good story...and focus on the fans you have made. ;-)

I haven't had any problems. The new group feature has too small a window to suit me, but it's six of one and a half dozen of the other.
