Lawyers!
I can not believe the idiocy of our lawyer!
Hubby keeps focusing on the secretaries/assistants - the women that work in our lawyer's office as the source of our aggravation, but I'm sorry - the lawyer, in my mind, is responsible for making sure that our affairs are handled properly.
My mother-in-law's estate is supposed to be all settled now. We obtained a home equity line of credit so that we could pay each of the girls the agreed upon sum. The amount of the line of credit is considerably more than the amount needed to pay them, and all legal fees, etc.
Like as in more than 2x what is required.
We went in and signed papers to make the necessary payments - lawyer was to take the amount required from the line of credit.
His office took the entire amount of the line of credit.
So we do not have the use of any of the amount in excess of that needed to pay off the ESs - and we get to pay interest on $$ we never had any need to touch.
That is the benefit of a line of credit - if you don't USE it you don't pay interest on it.
To make matters worse - when we discovered the error, hubby called, lawyer said that he would get the excess put back asap - and hasn't.
And then when hubby called again today, he got runarounds, excuses, defensiveness, etc. Like we are being unreasonable to not want to pay interest on more than 70k we do not have the use or control of.
Like we are being unreasonable for wanting that 70k to be where it belongs, back in the bank.
Like we are being unreasonable to expect them to do their &%$#! jobs.
And I have a cold and I feel absolutely horrible and I do not want to deal with this garbage.
And I have a paper that is due. Today.
And I can't concentrate - or think - or breathe - or stay conscious for any length of time.
I am cranky! Very, very cranky.
Voting for French Fries ends on Monday - what are you waiting for????!

Yeas, I'm evil. But sometimes public humiliation is the only way to resolve a problem.
seems to me he's incompetent, Lynn.... not the first issue we've had with this firm :(
Sorry about your cold...I probably gave it to you over the chat...lol...or maybe Grems did.
I don't hate lawyers, but I do not particularly respect them from being on the inside. They are too convinced of their own importance, and eventually lose sight of the fact they are supposed to help people. Not just take money, but do things in a timely manner. They get where they think the client can wait forever, until they feel like finally getting around to it. And that's not right.
You didn't ghet that cold here, I have other issues related to doctors who are jerks. More later.
I had to change my doctor's appointment ....teaching on the 4th ....its going to be a hell of a week with this cold and an extra 9 hours of teaching! ... but what can ya do *sigh*
they wouldn't accept one of the ESs signatures on documents even though she'd had it notarized.... so then she had to drive all the way up here to sign in front of them .... which she did, only to find out that they had not bothered to prepare HER cheque.... only the ones for the other girls
she was not impressed... can't say as I blame her
Grems does not feel great but the results are in and there is nothing nasty that begins with C in there

Hey, I don't leave these little guys just anywhere!
If you see my Widgets it means you got a "10" :O)
What often happens is a 'mis-deposit' to his client trust account (on which he is the only signator) where it is supposed to be safe, but then he withdraws money to fund his office expenses and his salary when earnings are tight. I share office space and a receptionist with several attorneys and you know what? I'd better not say... as you are already having a bad day.
Do everything with the attorney in writing and drop the term "Bar" several times to make your point that there is a higher authority to whom you can complain. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.
Your Lawyer crude sounds similar to our lawyer crude. My BF is going through what should be a pretty easy divorce. They just want to split it down the middle and there is no child support. It should be easy, but the lawyers are taking forever and constantly asking for paperwork that he has already given them, new figures, etc. I think that it would have been better just to do it ourselves!
