**Sports, and sports articles are such an integrated part of American society, why does Gather not include them the “9 Essentials“? Could they not be a 10th? Are they not a multi-billion dollar industry in this country to which other media have devoted much time? If you agree, leave a comment, well even if you don’t agree, leave a comment. Like I said on a previous article, disagreements and negative ratings do not upset me, so go for it. If you get too rowdy though (lol) now I can zap ya!

Hi guys - very late getting into this this week - been laid up a bit and not on the PC.
I have gone over this mess of messes and I am not sure WHERE Lawrence's picks came from as he has none above - maybe from HIS site?
At any rate, I have compared my picks to Mike's and I only disagree on two of them - my picks are all the same as Mike's EXCEPT for Baltimore over Cleveland (Geez, Mike, Cleveland?) and Tampa Bay over Carolina (Mike may be right about Carolina but I like Tampa Bay).
OK? Got it?
Thanks for the info and chance to play with the BIG GUYS!!! lol

Week Four is half way to the half way mark in the season, the first quarter as it were, and some teams are looking very good, most notably and not surprising, the Colts, and there are teams that are looking very bad, most notably and very surprising, the Saints. Week Four is all about things staying the way they are right now. Those who are winning will keep winning and those who are losing will keep whining.
Let's swing to the left and swing to the right! Those teams that are three and oh right now will wake up Monday morning be four and oh my god!
The Colts play the Broncos but they play in Indy. The Broncos are better than they look but the Colts keep winning. Colts win.
The Cowboys host the winless Rams. The Rams also have a better team than they appear to have, but the Cowboys have a team that is beginning to look every bit as good as they appear to be. Cowboys win.
The Packers take their show on the road to the very noisy Metrodome but it won't matter. They will silence the Viking fans and critics. Packers win.
The Steelers go on the road to face Arizona but the weather isn't as hot as the Steelers have been. They've been playing damn good football and that won't change. Steelers win.
New England plays Monday night in Cincy but the Bengals are a banged up team. Earth to Bengals: Brady to Moss, Patriots keep winning. Patriots win.
Week Four brings us five unbeaten teams. Week Five ought to bring us no less than four.
The other side of town is looking down, down, down. The NFC South contributes two teams to the cess pool of the NFL and week four will not see any change, if for no other reason the Aints don't play this week.
Were the Foul-Cons playing anyone but former Foul-Con Matt Stab-the-foulcons-in-the heart and any other team than the Texans this might be a good week. But they are, and it isn't going to be. Texans win.
The Bills host the 1-2 Jets and this is the best chance for an oh-fer to win this week and I would pick them but they just aren't very good, no matter who they're playing. Jets win.
Miami plays at home but that hasn't mattered. They play the Raiders who have played one more game better than the Dolphins. Who will play worse this week? Raiders win.
I might lose one of those, and let's face it, two of those teams are facing bad teams so two isn't out of the question. Now, in a deft move of mathematical genius, if the 3-0 teams and the 0-3 teams are determined, that leaves us with teams that are 2-1 or 1-2 to predict.
Two games have 1-2 teams facing 2-1 teams.
The Ravens, who have been playing decent enough, venture out to play the Browns, who other than scoring fifty something points against the Bengals, have been mostly harmless. If the Browns click, the Ravens fall. Browns win.
Da Bears limp into Detroit after getting their ass handed to them by Dallas Sunday. The Bears looked like Bad News. Rex looked terrible. The Super Bowl Bears had better solve this issue, and solve it this weekend. Rex gets benched. Bears win.
Did you notice I just picked both 1-2 teams to win? I just might regret it. Let's go next to the 2-1 teams playing 2-1 teams, and that would be two each!
The NFC South is as hotly contested as a three dollar bill. No one is showing any signs of life. Tampa Bay staggers into Carolina with multiple personality disorder as their single positive attribute. Carolina beat the Foul-cons last week, but gave up 20 points to a team incapable of winning so much as the coin toss. Carolina wins
Last year the Seahawks had a much better team and they got slapped around a little by the 49-ers. This year San Francisco is a much-improved team and I think the song remains the same. 49-ers win
There are four teams at 1-2 playing each other this week and it's a shock. If you had to guess who they might be at week one you'd miss this one.
Kansas City goes into San Diego and both teams look like they've been had, bad and cheap. The Chargers were supposed to have the very best team in the NFL but right now firing Marty is looking verrrry....stupid. San Diego's defense has been rocked by Farve, and Brady but KC doesn't have what it takes. Chargers win.
Finally, we get to a game that might be worth watching depending on who shows up. If McNabb and Co brings to the table what they brought last week the G-Men will suffer horribly. But The Other Manning is fighting for his job and so is his coach. How is this one gonna fall? I'm sorry Tom, I'm sorry it had to end this way, but it did. Eagles win.
For the year I was doing pretty good up to this point. I went 9-7 the first week, 12-4 the second week and 11-5 week three for a total of 32-16. Sooner or later, if you keep guessing right you are going to guess wrong. This week is the week that defines teams in a harsh way. If a team goes 0-4 it means that if they win twice as many games as they lose they can only break even. Breaking even might win the division in the NFC South, but everywhere else it's sitting out the post season.
This week brings to an end the Rex Grossman era and it may well signal the end of Giants Head Coach Tom Coughlin and Foul Cons alleged quarterback Joey Harrington. No coach is safe at 0-4, and it is never too early for a Bloody Monday.
Take Care,
~Mike Firesmith

Before you guys start bashing me for getting hyped up about one close win, please hear me out. As a giants fan we have a chance to set ourselves up very nicely if we can manage to beat Philly this week. If we win, we could be WELL on our way to the playoffs; if we don't, this could be a team without confidence that may sputter all year.
Last year we were horrible through 3 weeks, 1-2 if memory serves and then we ripped off 5 in a row to go to 6-2, and things were looking good. After that we shot ourselves in the foot week after week. We had to deal with a ridiculous string of devastating injuries, terrible coaching/playcalling and an inconsistent QB, not to mention that we had one of the 2 or 3 hardest schedules in the NFL, and through it all we still managed to squeak into the playoffs.
This year could be different though. We have a relatively easy schedule for once (thank heavens). We have improved coaching (I really like the potential that Gilbride and Spagnolo have), and I think they both have the mentality of actually making an effort to utilize the individual strengths of our personnel, rather that the previous two coaches that had their positions for the last few years, and insisted on making our players "adapt" to their style of coaching,
We're 1-2, but guess what? Half of the NFC is currently 1-2 or worse and we still have 13 games to go. Eli has played well (and would be getting more credit if his receivers were to step up and catch the nicely thrown balls that he's been handing to them). Eli is the guy that makes this team go and he will be fine and keep us in nearly every game this year. We should be able to score at will, just like we did a couple of years ago (3rd highest scoring team in the NFL.
Anyhow, the deciding factor in our season will be if we can beat Philly this week. We have lots of good things to look forward to; the first of which is a favorable stretch of games that we have coming up. Three of our next 4 games are at home, and we generally play really, really good at home. If you really want to look deeper, we can peek ahead at the next 6 games that we have coming up, and of those 6, 4 will be home games, 1 will be a "neutral game" (vs. Miami @ London), with only one true road game in that span (and that as @ Atlanta, and if I'm not mistaken the G-Men have won the last 5 or 6 games that we've played on the road @ Atlanta, and done so handily. Please keep in mind this was when they had Michael Vick, now it will be Joey Harrington that we will be facing).
Providing we can beat Philly (which will give up two HUGE division wins in a row) our confidence will be sky high. Until we have to face Dallas again in Week 10 we won't have any MAJOR challenges along with way. I like our potential, and it's possible that we can sail into the playoffs despite the miscues and criticism that we've endured thus far.
Just wait until we get Brandon Jacobs back; we will be hard to beat, no matter who the opponent is.
Right now we are a team in limbo, but with a big win this weekend we could have laid the foundation for a big time season.
Right now, all of us Giants fans need to keep our heads up, have confidence and stick together as a group. Some of us are high on some players and low on others, but everyone's opinion will naturally differ. But nobody can argue that if we get on some sort of roll that we have enough talent spread across this team in various places on the field to make us competitive week in a week out.

post 'em, post 'em...keep us informed!!
by the way, tell little frankie i WAS funky yesterday...went fishing,
fell in.......lol...
I do not understand about the "funky". They must often educate "Auntie" about their youthful ways. When I visit they love taking me to the mall where they meet with their friends. You would think they would be embarrassed to drag me along, but NOT! I guess it's because they need a chaffeur and the "old man" and "old woman" (Mom and Dad") would not be cool -- I don't know, but "Auntie" lets them get away with things!
But this "funky" business -- eeeeeeeek!
I like to fish too. (Remember? Country girl.) Catch anything?
I also like defensive players, not tight ends. What about you? ;=)
Although I am a Packer fan, I wish the Vikings well in this game.
I'll go with Seahawks for one pick and of course Da Bears for another :)
Diana: I thought you were a Seahawks fan. I was going to email you to wish the Seahawks the best, well almost the best.
And as for . . .
Matt C: We have had about enough of your telling forecasts! YOU said the Bears would WIN last week! So much for YOUR forecasts. Oh, and by the way . . . how is Rex the GROSS MAN doing this week? All suited up for the game,
OR did his suit get a little
GREASY!
ROFL!
(I was forced to play football here and there as a kid and I just didn't know why anybody would want to do that)
ha ha
Didn't we just have a little bit of fun. CAN'T WAIT UNTIL YOU COME TO THE CITY. Even if your publisher or agent is here, make some time for me. I know just the little dive. It's a gay bar, and if I go there by with you I'll get a lot more dances (because everybody will have to come through ME to get to YOU -- Hah! I know how to work this thing!

You are so cool.

Blasphemy!!
I'm with ya!
LET'S CRUCIFY THEM!
How about hoping with me that I get to seeee the game, huh?
I will also enjoy the Colts and the Pats. They will look very good, as usual.
Favre is a shoo-in for that record, I think. The season is so young. Hmmm, we like the same teams, at least those 3. Come on, Ty, what about the 49ers!
A special thank you for Bill. I cannot help to get choked up every time I mention his name.
Just in the short time I've known you, Mike you are such a stand up guy,

Jeff: at 6'5", were you a quarterback in school?
I think you shall be popping the cork on the champagne bottle very, very soon for Favre then!
And thanks for the 49ers!
Oh well :=[ Thanks all.

I know you like the 49ers. You have made that statement before. I suspect the San Fran over Seattle forecast is more wishful thinking, although I could be wrong.
It's a very kind sentiment. Just like Diana B. who is a Seattle fan, both of you are very kind and I thank you!
I cannot help myself. You've tempted me to post my own forecasted winners! Tom d. didn't this time, so I think I shall!

College football - it'll break your heart as badly as any fickle woman...
Hope you're feeling better, and all. Also hope you never change your Icon. He is adorable and heck of smart.
Come on, Tom! Lawrence has it going on. I came on to post the interview that Mike and you didn't do; he did it though!
All three of you make good choices for different reasons. Yes, I "got it" , and based on your comment, I'll add it to the article. Thanks! :=)
You said,
"College football - it'll break your heart as badly as any fickle woman... "
Did you REALLY think I was going to ignore that comment? Mmmmm?
Not that YOURS TRULY has ever been called a "fickle woman",
to the contrary, however -- got to stand up for the sex;
just what did the comment mean?
I mean what IS a "fickle woman" as opposed to a "fickle man"?
Women have a RIGHT to change their minds, if men do, they are STUPID, or INDECISIVE! But a woman, well, what the hell, I could not live without them, I'll admit it right now. fickle or otherwise.
