As a kid, on the edge of the first real teevee generation I watched all the usual stuff.Hannah-Barbera, Warner Brothers, Dizknee, Loony, all the greats..
But there was always a small quiet, special place in my heart for that old OLD underdog
POPEYE THE SAILOR MAN
Older I became, if not more grown up, crotchety some would say.
Still, I usually pick my fights as ones I can win and have a time or two used Popeye's Line,...
"it's all I'se can take, 'cause I can'ts take na more!".
Popeye remains heart-winning as the underdog.
He proudly remains "what he is," takes no guff from anyone,
and is ready to fight Bluto, that bully, to protect the girl he loves small children and the helpless.
Several generations of cartoons, movies, lunchboxes (I had one!), and a half dozen different incarnations of looks, voices, and manners all have had the same soft hearted person under the tough and gruff exterior…
For those of us that aspired to Olive Oyl, but usually ended up with the Sea Hag, he is a friend, an inspiration and almost part of the 'fambilly'.
