Help! My Author Left Me Stuck In A Pickup Truck In Another Dimension With Some Guy Named Leo!
This is a character blog for Sharon Mack, the main character in Bear Country, my entry in the First Chapters Romance contest. Bear Country is a Semi-finalist in that contest. Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 are available on Gather.
Like I said, I could use a little help. Look, I'm not the 'scream and hope some guy comes along to rescue me' type. I've got a black belt. I'm pretty good with a gun too. There is one problem though. I'm a character in a book in a Gather contest. By the laws of Gather Contest Character Reality (GCCR) I'm stuck here at the end of chapter 1 until at least 324 people read and rate the second chapter of the novel. (That's 100 more than read and rated the first chapter) I know it's a dumb rule, but I'm stuck with it.
You really don't want to leave me here. I'm in this alternate reality called "Bear Country". The guy on the radio called it "Ice Age North America on steroids". We've already run into (almost literally run into) a sabertooth tiger. There are far nastier things out there, I'm told.
That's bad enough, but my seven-year-old daughter has been kidnapped by my creepy ex-husband, who joined a cult led by a total nutcase named Sister West. Sister West apparently plans to stay in Bear Country, along with my ex-husband and my daughter.
Ok I shouldn't have gotten in the truck with Leo, at least not without finding out his last name. On the other hand, what else was I going to do? Walk? Play tag with the sabertooth? Yes, Leo's not entirely bad to look at, which may have influenced me a tiny bit, but really it wasn't an entirely bad idea. I'm a martial artist. I had a gun. I wouldn't have done it if this had been a horror novel or if creepy music had been playing, but this is romance novel. I figured, 'what's the worst that could happen?'
So anyway, here I am stuck at the end of chapter one, and only you can help me with your ratings and comments. The Romance Contest rules say that only tens count, so if you want to help me get to work living the next chapter tens are the way to go. I'm sure things will be much better by the end of that one.
In case you missed it at the top, the first two chapters of Bear Country are on-line:
