Before leaving for Reno, Matt and I did some reading about the restaurants: those downtown and those located in the Grand Sierra Resort, where we stayed.
The Lodge Buffet, located in the hotel, sounded right up our alley: Several varieties of ethnic cuisine (Italian, Aisan, Mexican) and American food as well.
Asian choices included General's Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Fried Rice:

Or Baked Swordfish and Noodles.
Of course, they had my particular favorite, Mexican. Pork Carnitas, Refried Beans, Taco Beef and Shells:
On the American side: Fresh Rolls, Minestrone Soup, Crab Legs and Shrimp:

Cod Almondine, Roast Pork and Barbecued Chicken:
Salad Choices:
Carved Prime Rib and Honey Mustard Ham:
Some of our selections:

And dessert:
This restaurant was a huge disappointment. For what we paid for one meal, we could have taken a taxi downtown and gotten a better meal.
The Caesar salad, prime rib and fried chicken were good, as were most of the desserts. A bottle of wine was only $6, so that was nice. The General's Chicken was good but it tasted more like an orange chicken. The refried beans were from a can, and most of the rest of the food certainly did not taste freshly prepared. Matt thought the crab legs and shrimp were terrible.
I think what really shocked us the most was that the Grand Sierra Resort bills itself as "Five Star". A Five Star resort would not house a mediocre restaurant such as this one.

Maybe after a few glasses you have the illusion of eating really good food. I am not one for buffets myself. Anything that sits under a heating lamp for hours and hours and has multiple & various diseased hands dipping in one after another, just doesn't do it for me. I am sorry you wasted your money on it. But the good news is, you never have to go there AGAIN!
You just inspired a short article about late Saturday night..
good review though.
Thanks, Stephanie.
I have had good ones, Bundy. They are just harder to find.
We had some good Mexican and sandwiches. It wasn't a total food bust ;)
LOL, yup, Michele.
And he is right, Reno is blah during the day (other than the mountains). Do you know where he was in Reno? Did he go to the bike rally?
Now, Shannon, I know this is about Reno and food, so if you address this in another article that's great with me. What I want to know is about canned small white potatoes. I like to keep them on hand for quick warm ups. I had some for lunch just a bit ago. I would like to dress them up some, but don't know how. Have you ever done this?
The other is to fry them up and mix with eggs and a little pepperoncini peppers and some of the juice. They work great in an egg bake.
oh they need that Gordon Ramsey of Hell's Kitchen to show up and kick a**
