Have you ever noticed how all the simple things in life become near impossible once you become a mother?
Let’s take a look at a daily scenario:
It’s bright and early in the morning, I’ve set the kids up with cereal and TV (let’s be honest, we all love our #1 babysitter, Nick Jr.!) so that I can get a quick shower in. I put MonkeyBaby in her bassinet and leave the bathroom door open so I can hear her while I begin to undress. Baby, of course, senses that I’m about to do something important so she begins to cry. Sighing, I quickly undress the baby as well so that she can come into the shower with me. A peaceful shower with the baby seems better to me than a quick fretful shower with a baby screaming in the other room. Within minutes of me being in the shower two year old DragonBoy is peeking in the curtain at me. “Can I get in, Mommy?” “No, just give me one more minute. I’ll be done quick I promise.” Since I’m soapy and holding a baby DragonBoy seizes the opportunity to climb right in, diaper and clothes included. Of course, within seconds the soap from my body has gotten in his eyes. Now I’m naked, soapy, holding a baby, and my toddler is fully clothed, dripping wet, and screaming about his eyes.
*Sigh* And all I wanted was a shower.
