Learning To Give At An Early Age

I read an article in my local paper online this morning that warmed my heart.  My parents taught me the meaning of giving to others at an early age and it was a lifetime lesson.  This article about a 7 year old girl who saw a way to share her talents and raise money for school supplies for children less fortunate that herself just re-enforces that children can't start  giving at too early an age.  You can read this article from the Iowa City Press Citizen Online News at this address.

Remember what Christ said about letting the little children come to him - they are devoid of all of the biases and baggage we adults carry and they see the point rather than rationalizing all of the reasons NOT to do something.

Excellent point, Donna... Many times when we've told our children to do something, or not do something, we get the inquisitive 'why'? They don't understand why. It is up to us to explain it. But also to be cautious that we don't taint their kindheartedness.

Stewardship is learned. My definition of stewardship is the giving of time, talent and treasure. glad this little girl has found a way to share with others.

I would like to give a heap of credit to the parents that made it possible for their child to be a giver. Remember the mother that made the lemon aid and the father that set up the business idea so it would really work. Big ideas are not worth much if parents say they are to busy to make them work.

You know that I always love the stories from your newspaper and this one is no exception. I always think of unfortanate school children who's parents do not have the money that other parents do. Will they be made fun of? I think of things like this, because schools are demanding that parents buy more and more stuff each school year. I hope this child teaches many people about the gift of giving.
