Had it not been for the fact that the Grammy committee membership wanted to make a political statement this year I've no doubt that Corinne Bailey Rae would have walked away with two, and possibly three Grammys this year. The Dixie Chicks stole the show, though; they weren't playing nice, and I say, "Right on, Dixie Chicks!" I LOVED IT! It was probably the best Grammy event I had event viewed.
Still, I can't find anyone who can replace Corinne in my heart as "numero uno" with her angelic voice -- she's surpassed "bad"; Corinne is "superbad".
Corinne is not for you if you don't like "mood" music. Her tunes are ballads, odes -- but she knows how to pick the tempo up and she knows how to slow it down. My favourite song, is definitely "Breathless". It's not that I am trying to seduce any friends. It's the very seductive sound of the song, everything that she has put into it that just makes me push the repeat button on the player and I can listen, sing or dance to it for hours. (Ladies, or gents, it's also excellent music with which you to seduce or romance).
Check her out, if you are not familiar with her, and you'll see why she got nominated for three Grammys this year.
Here's what Wikipedia says about Corinne Bailey Rae:
"Corinne Bailey Rae (born Corinne Bailey on 26 February1979) is an
English singer and songwriter who released her eponymous debut album Corinne Bailey Raein February 2006. Rae was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2006 in an annual BBC poll of music critics. The poll's predictions subsequently came true, as she became only the fourth female Britishact in history to have her first album debut at number one. Breathless lyrics
Seems like everyone else has a love just for them,
I don't mind, we have such a good time,
My best friend, but sometimes, well,
I wish we could be more than friends,
Tell me do you know?
Tell me do you know?
Oh..
I get so breathless, when you call my name,
I've often wondered, do you feel the same?
There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity
When we're all alone,
So don't tell me
You can't see
What I'm thinking of.
I can understand that you don't want to cross the line,
And you know I can't promise you things,
Will turn out fine,
But i have to be honest, I want you to be mine
Tell me do you know?
Tell me do you know?
Ooooooh...
I get so breathless, when you call my name,
I've often wondered, do you feel the same?
There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity
When we're all alone,
So don't tell me
You can't see
Oh!
'Cause I've tried to do this right in your own time
I've been telling with my eyes, my heart's on fire,
Why don't you realise?
Tell me do you know?
Tell me do you know?
I get so BREATHLESS...
I get so breathless, when you call my name,
I've often wondered, do you feel the same?
There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity
When we're all alone,
So don't tell me
You can't see
Oh!
I get so breathless, when you call my name,
I've often wondered, do you feel the same?
There's a chemistry, energy, a synchronicity
When we're all alone,
So don't tell me
You can't see
What I'm thinking of . . .

ANYTHING AT ALL. I have his photo in my images. But we fight like cats and dogs. The song fits us perfectly.
"I wonder why it is I don't argue like this with anyone but you
I won't let my guard down for anyone but you."
Yep, that's us. But nobody can touch us. We're solid. A solid friendship -- no family, no lover, no one can come between us.
We're tweedle dee and tweedle dum.
ROFL.
Still we fight like children, like cats and dogs, but would go to the ends of the world for one another. Very strange.
And to have that kind of friendship is a once-in-a-lifetime-pearl.
This lady is gooood, this Corinne Bailey Rae. I didn't want to include the lyrics in the article because it would lengthen the article. Here are those lyrics though:
Like A Star
Just like a star across my sky,
Just like an angel off the page,
You have appeared to my life,
Feel like I'll never be the same,
Just like a song in my heart,
Just like oil on my hands,
Oh.. I do love you,
Still i wonder why it is,
I don't argue like this,
With anyone but you,
We do it all the time,
Blowing out my mind,
You've got this look i can't describe,
You make me feel like I'm alive,
When everything else is a fade,
Without a doubt you're on my side,
Heaven has been away too long,
Can't find the words to write this song,
Oh.,..
Your love,
Still i wonder why it is,
I don't argue like this,
With anyone but you,
We do it all the time,
Blowing out my mind,
I have come to understand,
The way it is,
It's not a secret anymore,
'cause we've been through that before,
From tonight I know that you're the only one,
I've been confused and in the dark,
Now I understand,
I wonder why it is,
I don't argue like this,
With anyone but you,
I wonder why it is,
I wont let my guard down,
For anyone but you
We do it all the time,
Blowing out my mind,
Just like a star across my sky,
Just like an angel off the page,
You have appeared to my life,
Feel like I'll never be the same,
Just like a song in my heart,
Just like oil on my hands
This was a very detailed article, nicely done. Which team is she rooting for this year?
;)
I am not sure about Britain. They may have rugby or soccer or some other form of football. I know she is really into music. I also know she doesn't spend much time in the "States" unless she is touring.
At the Grammys I loved what she did with John Mayer. I think it was with "Breathless". She plays the guitar, yes, but when he took over and played lead guitar on the song, he transformed it into something surreal. I thought,
"The two of them need to pair up; she do vocals or both of them do vocals, and he do guitar."
What he does with that guitar is . . . I just don't know what to say.
I really wish she would re-record with the version of what he did. The man, well I guess in the music biz that would involve all kinds of wheeling and dealing, contracts, etc., but the man is just outstanding!
oh, tick tock -- my clock is running!
To answer, your question:
Probably no football team, huh?
My friend NY led me to this artist.
Okay, it is official! I am getting this music.
P.S. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment, you sweet thing, you!

I have figured out how to do this. I am going to send another favorite via Gather's mailing address to you. It isn't included on this CD. It's called,
"In My Mother's House" For those of you who aren't familiar with Corinne, I guarantee you that after hearing this tune you will want to hear more of her. I only hope that Gather will forward the pre-stamped envelope containing the CD to you. I guess I will know, because if they don't they'll probably return it to me. Thanks.
