Thoughts on prayer...

 A friend e-mailed me about feeling silly when she prayes the same prayer for things she needs and wants...

My Thoughts ...

As I understand the prayer process, it is a time for us to humble ourselves and ask for the specifics we need, becouse it is important for us to ask, not becouse he does not know what we are in need of...

If we are not humble, in many ways this restricts Heavenly Fathers ability to bless us, becouse we shut off  our right to blessings with our pride...

So prayer and the act "asking" is important, even if for no other reason then it brings us to our knee's and closer to our God...

 

     This is not meant to be some long disertation, Gospel truths are simple, just like choosing the right is simple, even if at times hard to do...

Dale I sent this to Positive war news, becouse the prayers we were discussing were prayers for our troops and there is nothing more positive then Faith spent in the act of protecting our hero's....

It is amazing how personal the concept of prayer is. I just know that I feel weird when I am with a group that prays out loud - I was always taught it was a silent thing. and I don't feel right asking for things that I ought to do myself - like when someone asks for help in passing a test. It just seems like He has more important things to worry about and if I am not willing to help myself, he sure isn't going to give me a push.

True Nanci, but it is not wrong to ask his help in being able to focus on ones studies, and that in and of itself would help test scores... or perhaps help just being able not to panic during a test.

I pray publicly when asked to lead a prayer, but not for listening of others. I pray out loud my personal prayers but that is for me becouse it helps me to actually think and listen to the spirit when I am specific... and if I am tired, praying silently is more then likely to will end up with me falling asleep during the prayer, not a real sin but I feel bad when I do not complete my prayers before sleeping.

I agree totally with you about prayer. I have fallen asleep many nights praying and it really made me feel bad. I told me daddy about me falling asleep while praying and what he said to me has always stayed in my mind, "What if you went to sleep while praying and you never woke up, - imagine talking to God one minute and the next minute you are with Him"! (I really loved your article and I agree with Michelle that prayer is so simple but the power of prayer is awesome)!!!!

I suppose it comes down to the phrasing although someone may say one thing and mean another which He would know.

In a higher state of conscousness the entire human experience can be offered as prayer. As we speak my typing iserves as prayer.

Maybe so Karl, but being a poet is not enough credentials for me to stop something the spirit tells me I must do...

Dde true, ones life can be as a prayer. But while that is true I was speaking specifically of talking with God and sharing my concerns and thanks, becouse he is my Father and friend.

yes I agree for whatever reason, talking to god, asking, thanking, discussing, looking for guidance, praising, worshiping, all brings us closer to him.
