Could one pull shadows from the wall
Or glean a truth from wistful fall
When the bar is so firmly set
And salted wounds stay not your quest
Elusive visions yours to hold
As to coddle in acts so bold
And ignore writings on the wall
And heed not the past sad resolve
For like a martyr you seek due
As faltering step gives a clue
From pages looming ghosts have sat
In an illusion fading fast
The beating drum its echo vies
With common sense for blinded eyes
That do not worry skies are gray
As strands of dust seem to remain
It's hitch the wagons and move on
Where trails merge in waning sun
Yet there is nothing you won't try
To keep a dream by candlelight
For each bruise from contrary soul
Your grip won't slip for hope you know
May be gasping yet your attire
Speaks volumes of your inner fire
The past buried and stored away
You fashion keys to use today
For doors they open from both sides
Only effort will tell you why
So dream on let the music play
Enjoy the waltz of rhythm sway
And once fevered dance leaves floor bare
Exhale a breath for you were there

I am not sure if what I got outof this is what you intended but the meaning it gives me gives a refreshed approach for another day.

You are one that can bear criticism and even ask for more.
I understand your message and you emotions and your regrets crystal clear but my total enjoyment was hindered by what seems to be unnecessary words and thoughts.
This poem can be a great one but I think that here are too many words.
I know, Bill, that you woud be the first to help me with your criticism.
thanks for your beautiful comments on my article
Where trails merge in waning sun
William, these two lines really speak to me!
I don't know about excess words, but I wondered about this stanza:
The beating drum its echo vies
With common sense from blinded eyes
That does not worry skies are gray
Or that past dust may block your way
Should this read ...for blinded eyes / That do not worry...
I was a little confused here.
Overall a very enjoyable read which caused me to think.
Anyway, I was just checking back in.
I did not see this earlier but now it appears to be just right! So many interesting thoughts to stop at, ponder on and imagine...!
