HTML is a lot like sex. Once you start doing it, you can't stop. And figuring out how to make things work gets easier with practice. And once you get the basics down the rest is just a simple matter of experimentation. And once you get good at it, it shows.
That would be enough of that, I'm thinking.
Someone asked me how I get my comments to be bold. Tequila, usually, and it will also make you a better singer, a better dancer, much better looking, richer, and you'll become a meaner tougher fighter as well. Tequila fighters normally employ the fighting tactic known as " Smash your face into their fist until they wear themselves out" Trust me, fighting while drinking leads to this.
I write all my articles in Word, then paste them to Gather. When you are about to post an article, look up at the toolbar and there is a tiny icon that, when you mouse over it reads, "Paste from Word". All the bold and italics, as well as colored fonts, will be magically transferred with your article.
To make bold text in a comment you would type out the following text, but you'd leave out the *. I put the * in because teh MTHL code might get picked up by the computer and you would wonder if I had lost my mind. But try this:
<*B> This causes text to be BOLD!</*B>
HTLM tags, which is what all of this is know as, is made up of two parts. First, you "open" a tag by using the two directional arrows and the letter. Then you "close" the tag by using the left directional arrow, a backslash, the letter, and the right arrow.
IMPORTANT! If you do not close the tag then the open tag will affect everything that follows the open tag!
Italics look like this, sans * <i*> This is done in italics</*i>
Note that I used a lower case "I". It's good practice to open with the same case as you close with. Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't matter.
Colored fonts inside of an article work like this, sans * <font* color=red> This is red text</*font>
The HTML editor in Gather will let you do a wide range of colors.
All in all, if you're here to write then a lot of HTML isn't going to appeal to you. But a few of the basics are fun, and you'll enjoy using them in comments to quote other people's stuff.

Take Care,
