No he'll just give them their free ride. I could see allowing them to get their driv er's license as a ploy to get them to identify themselves to be deported. But this guy is giving in to these illegals.

Most politians want these illegals here, they give so many bogus excuses as to the benefits of having them here. Its BS. on the news yesterday another illegal, killed a policeman, this illegal had been deported back to Mexico before and came back. I think we have our own civil war going on right here. They dont belong here, if they want to stay here, maybe, we should build a special prison, instead of sending them back to their country, and make their government pay to house them here.

It figures. I am not against immigration -- our ancestors got here that way. But I think once you get here you need to start following your new home's laws. Meanwhile I have been fighting for 2 months to get my kids' Medicaid reinstated. I just had to fax in ID for them that could NOT include birth cert's or SS cards because of immigration fraud problems.

If I harbor a criminal ... I am held responsible and I go to jail.

If ANY illegal gets into an accident, WE should all sue their insurance company ( if they even have insurance) and sue SPITZER for allowing them to be able to and giving them the weapon to do the crime!

He wouldn't be the first politician to be taken down legally and when he is sued personally, we are hitting him in his pocket ....... NOW WE HAVE HIS ATTENTION!

True we may not sue him for a fender bender but lose someone in your family, someone who is your whole life and we will sue SPITZER and personally.

Ridiculous! I thought you actually had to be a legal resident of the country to even get car insurance. Though documents can and are faked. Send 'em back!

Here in NY I've heard of only a handful of accidents with illegals without insurance, I'm sure there is many more. Of course this was in the past and they didn't have a license either, but like many are saying only Americans have to obey the rules ... not illegals. The news is filled with DWI's by illegals, where is MADD?
I did see what some have is called a "driving document"! There are a 100 ways to skirt around the laws, if they are not here to begin with there is no skirting.

We act surprised, they already ignored our laws coming here, why should we think they are not going to ignore more laws! Even if caught THEY KNOW they get a free trip home and get to come back and destroy more American lives. Tancredo where are you?

Let me tell you, Stitzer is scaring my girlfriend Anna with this, and she's a (tie) dyed-in-the-wool liberal from Brooklyn. I see it as his fallback position, after getting severely bruised (politically) in his first year as governor. He has embraced every far left special interest, to distract attention from the investigations of his ethics, especially in the troopergate scandal. I am disgusted, and will be following up my earlier report on Spitzer's myriad scandals.

This guy is now in bed with the most corrupt liberal movements in NYS, and he took BIG money from Hsu!

What a hoot. Spitzer is the most popular public official in New York State.

He suffered slightly with the dust-up about his aide's detective work on the illegal trips of the Republican Senate leader, Joseph Bruno (who is under active investigation by the DOJ and who desperately needs some one else to get some attention) but his numbers were phenomenally high to start.

Of course it didn't help when Bruno (want to compare nasty and corrupt politicians in New York State -Spitzer is an angel) hired a thuggish consultant to leave threatening messages on the phone machine of a 90 year old man.

If Tom could read the papers (it's not just immigrants who do not understand English), he might learn that Spitzer was never charged with wrong-doing, and that his aide was just cleared entirely this week.

There are no "special privileges" for immigrants such as the Know-Nothing, nativist, fear-ridden haters on this site would sugggest.

New York is booming (no real estate slow down here) because we recognize the vital economic contribution of immigrant labor.

I don't like the illegals to be here. But since they are here. I see no problem with them having a driver's license of some sort. Even if it is called or looks different than Americans. I look at it this. When they get one..they have to pay for it and it puts money back in American pockets. Plus, it might help the local grocery stores keep their shopping carts from being stolen.

Susan, No doubt the ACLU will have the English on road signs changed from MPH to KPH to reflect all of [their] constituency. Safe?, they don't care about safe, You can't sue Americans or its government when roads are safe.

It's very simple: which security concern is primary? That all drivers be identified, and licensed, or that all illegal aliens be identified, and "documented?"

On the "up" side, it would take away a liberalspeak word; a person who is here illegally can no longer be called "undocumented?" It would also invalidate the use of NY drivers' licenses as an ID at airports, under the federal REAL ID act. I don't see this as a net advantage to homeland security, knowing the porous nature of the NYS DMV.

maybe Spitzer is simply setting up an improved lawsuit environment...remember his background.

also remember NYC/NY is like most of the coastal blue states, loosing native born populations at a frantic rate, its illegals that enable the upper class liberal elites to keep their way of life while natives move west and south...
