I woke up earlier this morning than usual for a Saturday, but I was rested.   It is a beautiful morning here in Iowa.  Though it is only 50 out right now we are promised a high of 77 today.  A perfect fall day.

I have many things I need to accomplish today in preparation for the company coming on Monday.   I know I will get all the important things done.

What are your plans for today, for the week-end?

Good morning Sadie and all. I am frustrated because my paper has again not yet arrived (this has been going on all week). I plan to take the kids to the farmers market this morning, then I am going to clean my house, bake some bread to go with the rigatoni casserole I have waiting in the fridge, enjoy the backyard and just relax!
Sarina, apple picking with the grands sounds fun! We're going to Michigan in a couple of weeks to go apple picking. Sadie, what's on your agenda?

Picking the apples is so much more fun than taking care of all of them. I haven't made an apple pie for a long time. I love eating apples and do almost every day.

When I was little we had a neighbor with an apple press. I loved getting a cup of just squeezed juice. I didn't even car if the apples were washed first or not. Few sprayed in those days so you didn't have to worry about that. The usually sorted through the apples first and them washed them before pressing.

We don't spray and our apples are large and good this year. I'm glad 'cause they are so much easier to peel when they are larger for pies. I made pies and sauce last week. Was going to make apple butter, but honestly it takes all day on the stove and with the cost of using the gas stove it wouldn't be worth it for that. I still have a few jars left from last year.

Homemade. I bake almost all my own bread. My mixer does most of the work--I just have to roll it out, shape it and let it rise. There's nothing like it!!

I plan on making some apple crisp first. I promised one of my clients that I would bring her some when I make it. At 93, she doesn't bake for herself any more.

We have a wonderful orchard about 7 miles from here. They have many different kinds of apples and you can pick your own or by already picked. Mr. Wilson also has a hayrackwith seats that he drives people through the orchard with. You can try any of the apples you want. It is a great outing for all ages. They decorate for apple picking season, and they make the best apple turnovers. Yo ucan get them hot any time. Apple pies too. They also have pumpkins and gourds. It is a pleasant time when you go to Wilson's Apple orchard.

I make home made, too. I have a kitchen aide mixer with the bread hook. I'm glad I have it not that I am having problems with my bones, etc. My husband bought me a bread machine for Christmas last year. I used it twice. I don't like it. I don't tell him that, though.

I don't care that much for bread machine bread either. I used to bake my own some of the time. The kitchen smells so good when you take fresh bread from the oven.

J.F. you are a lot like I used to be, canning and freezing all summer and fall. My mother made the best apple butter ever.

Wilson's Orchard sounds like alot of fun. Go and take some pics for us. Lisa, I never made crockpot apple butter. Wonder if it is just as good. Have you ever made it? You think it would come out runny because the crockpot always adds moisture.

J.F, I have the KitchenAid mixer too--I am in love with it!!! The bread machines make bread so chewy, and then it has that weird hole in it.

I love gardening, canning, etc. It is getting tougher every year with all my health problems, but I keep plugging along. It's what makes me happy and I hate to give it up. I will do apples today and watch my cooking shows at the same time. The house will smell soooo good with the apples and cinnamon. Come on over. Lisa can come make bread.

Get yourself the Ball canning book. It is the best. They have a website now, too. They take you through the steps. I think it is Ballpreserving.com. Canning is easy once you do it, but it is alot of work. I canned green beans, tomatoes, zucchini relish, tomato sauce, salsa, etc. I freeze my applesauce. You can freeze tomatoes, too. Core them and put them in a ziploc. Then when you want them, run under water and the skin slips right off.

Going to the PepperPlace Farmers Market - hope they have apples. I's a gorgeous fall day here too - 74 feels like 64 on my shady balcony, but I'm still drinking iced spicey chocolate coffee. It'll have to get a little colder before I go back to hot coffee.
Got a 'Blog' finally and signed up for adsense ads to see if passive income is a reality.

I have been canning for so long and showing people that I really don't need one, but it would be good for some of my younger friends that are just learning. You know, there aren't many people who do it anymore. They say it is cheaper to buy at the store. But they sure do love my stuff. LOL!!!

Sarina, that would be lovely. My mom couldn't stand to see any windfalls go to waste so she kept picking them up and making apple butter. She always gave all her kids and grandkids Care packages at Christmas with some apple butter in them. My children still talk about Grandma's apple butter and her cinnamon rolls. Great memories for them.

Hi, Lindy. I have an apple cake recipe, too that is so moist and easy to make. I make several and freeze them. My neighbor friend is by himself since his wife passed, so I always make him little apple pies and give him several slices of the apple cake. He always brings me the little tins to make him the pies. It's so cute.

Hi Audrey and everyone! :-) Today is my birthday... My daughter and 3 grandsons are taking me out to the Hood River Fruit Loop to attend the annual Pear Festivities at several of the farms. We'll also take the boys to the Alpaca Farm so they can pet the animals there and watch them spin yarn from the alpaca fur. We'll have lunch at one of the bar-b-ques they have out there today. Talk about "quality time" with my kids... it's such fun!

Still working on the cleaning but I'm half done. The bathroom is always a chore I don't relish, does anyone? But it is done as is the bedroom and living room. Now to the kitchen.. Don't like claning that either but I've done several jobs alread like thecabinet fronts, window and general pick up. Some of it is last minute cuz you want it to shine for company and I have two days left before she arrives. I will clean the fridge first, then the counter and stove with the floor last. I will be very tired after that is all finished. Hope everyone is having a great Saturday.
