If you don
't believe in God this article is not for you.
I am just starting on my journey to be closer to God and am trying to read the bible. The thing is I am an avid reader and well read, but the bible just intimidates me. So I would like to reach out to my Gather friends and see if you guys have some favorite Bible verses that you would like to share with me.
My son is memorizing some verses in school and the one for this week is:
"For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything."(Hebrews 3:4)

I forgot exactly where in the bible but it sticks in my mind .. that and ..
"Ye are all gods, sons of the Most High." Psalms 82 (something) must have been one of Jesus' favs too because he quoted it elsewhere when he was being accused of playing God.
If you see my widgets it means you got a "10" :O)
1 John 3:16
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers
That is so true he truly is a great man he gave his life for him so why not give our lives to him!!
We DANIEL-like people have to help each other out!
Dan . .translation "Judge" .. i .. liken to "is" .. el .. God
"God is my Judge." Hebrew symbol of a man (Judge?) going through a door .. can't draw it here!

Where there is total Light, there is no room for darkness.
Do nothing from selfishness or conceit, but in humility count others better than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross.

Many times it's hard for me to remember that everything that happens has a purpose and I must refer back to this verse, and know that "ALL things, bad or good, will work out.
The best place to begin reading the Holy Bible, in my opinion, is with the New Testament. I think it is a much easier read then the Old Testament and in fact, it uses the Old Testament as a reference point because Jesus relied on those old teachings in his own understanding of law and so forth. Yet it is in the New Testament that we are able to see the Christ Mind in action.
never could understand why though.
My favorite is 1 Corinthians 13
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves."
That is and has always been my favorite among them all because without the fact that God was willing to take me as I was - unclean, unworthy and sinful - then I would never have been able to get out on my own. The rest, all by grace and by God's wondrous love, it all ties into that. I'm not selling it short. But for me, a 37 year old heathen loser who was unwanted and usually shunned by churches and church folk, this was a real eye opener. That and a loving group of people who understood & offered me the love of Jesus despite everything I did to make them uncomfortable and to make them dislike me - they loved me in spite of myself because Jesus had taught them how to truly love the sinner and not the sin. There is no one who God does not want and no one who has to clean up to come forward to Christ. I am living proof of that, and this verse has always pointed that put to me as no other in the Bible.
Thank you for this awesome reminder and beautiful opportunity to reflect and be grateful, Danielle. Have a fantastic Friday!
The pathway is of little importance but the fact that you saw your mistakes and cleaned up your act says alot about you as a man.
"Love one another."
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. " - Ephesians 2:8-9
The only thing I did was stop fighting, submit to the Father and accept the fgift of His precious son Jesus. They did the rest.
May God richly and deeply bless you my brother.
"And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."
"Why do you notice the splinter in your brother's eye, but do not preceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me remove tht splinter from your eye' while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your eye first; then you will see the clearly to remove the splinter from your brother's eye."
