You thought the bears were bad when you camp??? I know of worse!

Inspired by Vivian's potato robbing essay I had to post mine about my experience with the Whiskey Jack's. It all started when we went camping in August. I thought it would be a gay old time. Until thiefs kept stealing the cat food. I kept wondering where it was going!! I saw this sign up at the trading post (store).

 

But you know...why would bears want cat food.....Belle tried to warn us!!

And my daughter couldn't believe it either.....

But there it was right in front of me!!

That darn bird....

My husband had the great idea to feed them....sure egg them on!

WHy not???

All Belle wanted to do was to eat them....

The kids had to get in on the action too...

But they were cute ... sorta

I never did see a bear!

where we go in the white mountains of N.H.(DEEP in the woods), we have to put the food in the cars right after eating because of the bear problem. last year, my son heard rustling in the woods,looked and it was a black bear(BIG one too). he threw a bag of chips at him so we could get out of there, and th camp owner came, hearing us, an usually you're told to make noise and scare them off but when he tried, the bear charged him and he maced him (poor bear). then he chased the bear into the woods, and we heard screams. A group of women were camping and i guess the bear made it to their site too. 2 years ago the camp actually captured on in a trap to release deeper in the woods, i guess it had been terrorizing campers even worse than last years! I do feel bad for the bears because the woods are their home and we humans are only guests. We may change where we camp next year, i couldnt sleep all night:)

It is scary when camping that a bear can wander in on you. My most fear is if my children encounter a bear.

Great pictures, what fun getting birds to eat out of your hand. We had pigeons eating out of our hands in Boston, Whisky Jacks are much prettier:)
