US Senate is Going to Vote to Condemn MoveOn...

That is what the "urgent" e-mail that I received from MoveOn.org this morning said. (Hey, I get e-mails from organizations and officeholders across the political spectrum. And - given that I have been a defender of that ad - I felt it necessary to call my senator's and express how ridiculous I thought it was. I left a message with McCain, but here is my report of my conversation with the kid at Kyl's:

Jim at Kyl's said he has not heard what role Kyl is having or may have on it, but he did provide a pretty muddled defense of the possible resolution. (I've been pretty outspoken regarding the ad the last couple of weeks - even though I don't always agree with MoveOn ads - and I explained to Jim why the resolution is ridiculous.

I would have liked to see every Senator condemn the ad on their own, instead of wasting the American peoples' time and tax dollars on something like this. But hey, at least they are doing the right thing.

I didn't care for the "Betray us" part of the ad. Just sinking to the level of those that have called everyone on the left "unpatriotic" over the last six years. But having a senate vote on it is just silly. Are they going to spend time condemning every ad that might be over the top? If that's the case they might want to start with the one that had Max Cleland sandwiched between Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden.

Very sad. It passed 72-25. The Senate repudiating a legitimate political ad and the "liberal activist group" that produced it.

The Republicans and many Democrats wanted this vote, as you can see from the vote itself.

Those Democrats that vote for the resolution where wise, as by alienating the out of their mind, out of touch, radical Liberal Left allows the vast majority of Americans to respect them again.
