Good question, Heather. I ***think*** I read somewhere in the FAQ's that you can email Gather support to request the removal of a group -- but please don't take my word for that! :-)

I would like to do that too...I have a ton of groups I started when I first got here...or should I send out invites....what should I do smart Heather???

Yes. Just e-mail gather support and ask them to remove the group. It takes a few days or so but they will eventually remove it. They did it for me.

Guess it depends on whether you are still interested in running the group, Tay... the ones I want to get rid of, I have little interest in running. ;) If I was more interested in them still, I'd simply send out an exclusive invite to 514 of my closest friends. ;)

Why are people not joining the groups you own?
Are your groups too specific?
Are you moderating the group?

I like general groups - unmoderated. I hate when someone denies my article so I tend to not join them at all or "unjoin" if I get rejected.
Not saying that you rejected me....just trying to help you figure out why no activity.

I will go check out your groups.
Maybe you can go to the group called "groups directory" and post your groups there or send a message out to everyone in your friends list.

Hey Heather....

I just looked at your groups. I am a member of most of your groups. The only ones that I am not a member of is the photo ones and the Michigan ones.

Your groups look good... I love points groups so I had already joined months ago to your groups.

ONly 513 of your closest friends eh...But I tried to invite my closest 313 friends and it said I only had 50 invites left?? OMG!!!

You can always set up a moderated group. I did that for my group Fifteen Minutes (which is for articles that were successfully published in the print world) but I stiil get people that think posting on Gather qualifies the article.
No pleasing everyone I guess.

I'd send out the invites keep it unmoderated and just let it run itself...maybe invite people who have interest in that kind of group, which means you might have to do research to make the matches...only suggestions...

Thank you Heather, and thank you for everyone who responded. I have actually been thinking the same thought as I have one group where I have only received irrelevant material, and I recently managed to set up duplicates of the same group. I have no idea how I did it, but I just put error on the duplicate.
