Gather user Peg C. recently hosted a challenge to writers in order for us to compose an article about feminism in our lives. I penned an article entitled, "Bringing Feminism to the Forefront," to share my thoughts about how feminism is a part of my life. She graciously sent the winners of this contest (of which I was one!) a brand-new copy of the book Full Frontal Feminism: A Young Woman's Guide to Why Feminism Matters, by Jessica Valenti. I am thrilled to read this book and delve even further into some feminist philosophy.
I was so excited to discover that my article, re-titled "My Continued Evolution as a Feminist" is currently featured on the main page of Associated Content. If it weren't for Peg's inspiration, I most likely would NOT have been considering feminist issues during the summer. Barefoot and pregnant, I was napping most of the time. ;) I feel that I have a lot to learn in my life concerning feminism, how to raise my son (and soon to be second-son) in a way that will be healthy and true to my burgeoning feminist ideals. As a teacher, I have a unique opportunity to ensure that the curricula I teach is as close to gender-balanced as it can get...a huge challenge while teaching English in a high school, sadly. My article focused on my perspectives and a student, a mother, and a teacher, with facts sprinkled in about American salary inequities, which surprised me.
If you are interested in reading my article, it is featured here: http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/334183/my_continued_evolution_as_a_feminist.html
