Flowers In Mexico - a photo essay

I don't have a lot to say about the flowers I've photographed in Mexico because, quite frankly, I don't know the names of many of them. So I'll let the flowers do most of the talking. Feel free to help out if you know what they are!

I think this is a Hibiscus with purple bouganvilea in the background. This was taken in front of the apartment where I stay when in Zihuatanejo.

The next few are also within 50 yards of the apartment.

 Just across the canal on Adelita Street is a little garden near my favorite restaurant, Salvador's. I took the next photos in that garden.

Your photos are beautiful, I cannot help with the names, but I know we have several of these down here in South Florida.


Your interpretation and presentation is incredible....I love it. While I was looking at your photos, I kept thinking back at my first years in school, where we had lots of room to play in. Unfortunately, my son doesn't have the same opportunities at his ore school here in South Florida as the area is very urban.

The two years we were in Denmark, I really took my kids outdoors a lot, and I hope we will find a place with more nature to play in before my son starts kindergarden next year.

Rick, these are all so beautiful. That's one of the things that impressed me when we went to Cancun and Cozumel, all the beautiful flowers and they are everywhere. All the grounds are meticulously manicured and kept up. Even on the highways there are flowers and beautiful trees. I don't know the names either but I always enjoy seeing the photos and remembering how much I enjoyed them.

I loved this photo essay Rick, as with all of yours, you do a wonderful job, and each of the flowers shown, no matter what the name is extraordinary in its beauty. The colors in your photo are so rich, you must have a great camera and a good eye to get things like this for us all.

Nice shots. I spend more than a little time shooting my wifes flowers. She spends both money and a considerable time on her flowers. We have such a short growing season that I try to save them for her in pics. Of course then she wants prints of them...

4 reminds me of stars of bethlehem but i really tend to think that is not right. the foliage reminds me of a type of ILEX. 13, Duckie, I am thinking, makes me think of the "Black Eyed Susan" vine, but without the black eye? Is that a giant pod hanging down? 11 reminds me of fritillaria, which is actually a rhizome or bulb. 12 a tithonia? i am not so sure about that! i think the petals are too rounded for tithonia. 19? Is I believe a Yucca, I think also known as a Century Plant! And yes, they DO get that big, if they are allowed to...and to top it off they only flower once every so many years. There was a guy in Boston who grew one in his penthouse greenhouse, and would you believe he had to open the tops and there was this enormous Century Plant jutting out of the roof in the city for a short time? This was recent!

I don't know how I miss this stuff...and I would love to come visit there! GREAT photos!

the white flower is a mexican petunia (i have purple ones), the tallest one is a CENTURY plant, the next to the last one is a cannas.
