For about 2 months now we have been battling the mice in the kitchen. We caught one in a humane trap and released in a field and within 2 days we were aware of it's little friends running around. There were 3 times where a mouse had gotten into the trap, eaten the peanut butter and gotten back out again. We have since fixed the flaw in the trap that was allowing that to happen and the mice of course have not stepped foot into the trap since.
Last week my boyfriend was getting ready for work, he picked up his sweatshirt from where he had left it on the floor the night before, he stood there for a minute and then said "Well what do we do now?" - I had no idea what he was talking about until I looked down and noticed the tiny mouse cowering at his feet. He simply threw his sweatshirt back over it, picked it up and put it into a box - sweatshirt and all, he released it by the river at his work.
That leaves us with 2 mice in the house (at least) and I have no idea what they were doing last night but I kept hearing clanking in the kitchen but everytime I got there they were completely gone. At one point I heard some frantic squeaking I don't know if they were fighting (do mice fight?) or if one of them had gotten into one of my cacti (I got some satisfaction from that thought).
It's gotten so bad that I see imaginary mice running along walls wherever I go. I"m even trying intimidation techniques - everytime I see or hear one in the house I say in a very loud and intimadating voice "I saw/heard you little mouse! I knw you are here!" They don't seem very intimidated.
Maybe I should just give in and start feeding them and calling them pets, my 20 month old daughter is rather fond of them.
