Some people just take their "power" to far. This morning I went to Wal-Mart. I had in my cart Rapid Release Tylenol, Asprin, a loaf of bread, Folgers Cappucino mix and dish soap. I went to the check out, the lady scanned everything, then she came to the asprin. Scanned them and looked at me funny. Then she took the Tylenol scanned them and then asked for my I.D. I was writing a check so I had it ready anyway. I asked her if there was a problem, she said "no" and gave me back my license. We finished up the transaction, then I asked to speak to a manager. I didn't feel she needed to card me for asprin or tylenol. I was not buying a large amount, one bottle of each.
After she denied me to talk with a manager, I went to Customer Service. The manager was called and came to talk to me. He looked at me as if I was out of my mind or something. He went over and talked to the cashier who admitted to looking at the I.D. He told me it was her mistake for not knowing the policy on Over The Counter Medications. WHAT!!!???!!! This lady has worked there for at best three years. I see her everytime I go there and have been through her register many times. In so many words I told him "B.S." and left.
How old do you have to look to be able to buy Asprin or Tylenol?? When they card me for beer, it's fine. Card me for cigarettes (when someone sends me) and I am a happy camper. I'm glad no one thinks I am older then 27 BUT I definately am old enough to buy Asprin or Tylenol. I've been buying it since middle school, if not before!
ERRRRR!

I have never heard of anything like that..
I mean I guess with people abusing pills nowdays, but I wouldn't think aspirin and tylenol would be on the abused list......
unlike cough syrup which even that I didn't think you needed an I.D. to buy, there is just a limit on how much they will let you purchase......
But carding? SERIOUSLY... that's not right.
I don't mind the carding on Beers, but the rest is rediculous.
Sorry it happened to you.
Some people make mountains out of mole hiles, and talking to a manager over it and making the cashier look bad...wow Funny how fast someone will ask for a manager to make a complaint but how many take the time to ask for a manager and say the cashier was great.
Many larger retail stores routinely program cash registers to verify age on products. Medications is just one of them, paints, glues, music, movies, sporting goods... I have also seen where UPC were incorrectly keyed to ask for age, like Tylenol because some Tylenol has additional products to assist with sleep or other additives.
Sara, ever consider how much a cashier makes at walmart and all the crap they deal with and then have a snappy customer complain about being asked for her ID twice? Tylenol like I said could have triggered an age verification on the scanner.
I rather be nice to the cashier, smile and have a decent conversation.
Sara-Might also notice I like to challenge people to think..sorry it was to much work for you.
Sara, customer service seems to be at the bottom of the list for a lot of retail stores these days. I've had good and bad experiences. If it's bad enough, as was yours, I will speak to the manager because, as one manager put it, if he doesn't know about these things, he can't fix it. When an experience has been very good, I take the time to write a letter because that will go in the employees file. WalMart employees don't get bad much, so every little bit helps.
Glad to hear you at least give feedback both ways. My hope is next time Sara uses that cashier she gets the payback she deserves for contacting a manager and making a complaint for nothing.
BUT - on a side note.
I do not know why Donald is presuming that Sara never makes an effort to comment on positive actions by employees.
In some stores (not necessarily the enitre chain, but sometimes it seems like it) it is harder to have a positive experience. I haven't really had a positive WalMart experience since Sam Walton passed and the Walton family took the spirit out of the WalMart.
We are Americans - we have options - be happy about it (and feel lucky about it!)
