Many of you know I have had some major issues and problems with Gather. Messages have been flying around Gather since I returned Monday about my being lost or deleted by Gather. I do know there were quite a few people behind the scenes who worked very hard to get me back on Gather again. So rather than complain, I am going to talk about some good things about Gather.
Today I want to praise one very helpful person at Gather. His name is Chuck McGuire and he works for Member Services. He helped to get me back on Gather after I had been lost/misplaced/moved to neverland and/or deleted. I had a number of emails from him and I sent quite a few to him too! Once he found I could not login, he went to work to find out why. In about a day he wrote to me to explain what was going on. Someone made a mistake. Someone who I don't know apparently changed a number of accounts to inactive status and unfortunately I was one of those who suddenly were no more.
Once he knew what happened he wrote back to me and promised me I would back with the Gather community no later than Monday afternoon. That was only last Friday afternoon. So he had only two days to keep his promise.
Sure enough, he wrote to me in the early afternoon Monday and asked me to test my username and password. It worked! Chuck did a great job and I thank him for doing exactly what he told me he could do for me.
I did lose my contacts and all of my groups but I can recover those in time. I didn't lose my Articles, Photos or messages and my points were still here too. (I cashed out again today!)
Kevin and the other guides at Gather are here to help you too! Although some of you may see it as an opportunity to vent by writing an article about a problem you perceive, I do believe you would do better to contact one of the guides or write to Gather support and ask them your question or tell them of the problems you are having BEFORE going public, so to speak, with an article on the Gather community.
I know, I know, you're saying how can he say this? It's been done; we don't hear back and we don't know what is going on. Give them a day or three. There are many members and only so many guides and support personnel. They are being more responsive today than I've seen in the year and a month that I've been a member here. There is real progress going on. I believe there is a new dedication to member service here at Gather. It began as recently as today. I don't work for Gather so I can't really say although I do believe there have been some high level meetings and the result is the new commitment I perceive.
Misinformation abounds as has been shown today by the reckless comments made by one member regarding an article written about points possibly not being credited. He could have asked any of the Gather guides or sent a message to support and gotten the correct answer. Instead he speculated with only limited knowledge he actually had about the subject he was commenting.
I earned about 200 points in one day, just yesterday, and I'll bet, tomorrow or the next day, another several hundred points will show up for me. I've been a busy little beaver trying to regain my relationships and rejoin groups. Of course, I can't simply reconnect or rejoin a group and not look at the articles, photos, videos, and comments without jumping in and getting involved myself. I do that! Yes, I do! :-)
I have not written any articles until this one nor have I posted any new photos or videos. They factor into the equation of total points also. One of the guides told me the formula is a rather complicated one. There are those here who claim to have insight into how the points are calculated. I doubt that members actually do know.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this: There are some very talented folks here, both guides and support staff, who can explain just about anything you need to find out about Gather if only you'll ask. The won't tell you how to get a million points in one day but other than that, I'm certain asking them is a better alternative to a Gather gripe or a Gather grumble. Lord knows I've done that enough in the past. If I had put my energies into getting help rather than griping so much I know my past experience here would have been much more enjoyable.
If you are having a problem posting, commenting, or uploading a photo or video, contact these folks. They are here to help you and they will help you if you'll give them a chance.
I may be wrong. But, give it a try and see if you don't find your experience at Gather a better one by utilizing the resources they have available before you complain so loudly to the masses.
Oh, I'd like to mention something about your computer. It's full of junk! Full of files you've received while browsing. Empty your cache in your browser. That can speed up things here at Gather quite a bit. I didn't know that. I learned it at guides.gather.com. You can too.
Do your part and Gather will do it's part too. There will always be some problem. Gather is a big community with many members, many groups, and many files being uploaded and saved every single day.
Part of the attraction to Gather, for me, was it was something new, something different, and something I'd never seen before on the Internet. There are other sites close to it but none with all the features Gather has to offer.
Now remember, this is coming from the guy who was erased by Gather! Look at me today. I'm back and I'm having a blast! I hope you'll have a blast at Gather too!
p.s. Gather in no way asked me or paid me to say all these nice things about them. I know they are working hard to keep you happy. Now, about that pay.......
