While this scenester fad has been turning everything over to their side, it doesn't take a doctorate in music to realize that 99.999% of these wannabe power pop bands are filled with desperate losers with no music talent and who have "punk roots" as deep as Avril Lavigne. Enter one of the best -and only unique- bands from the last 5 years, The Pink Spiders.
Yes, they do have a very distinct hipster vibe, but just as The Beattles were considered a "boy band," they may fit in the catagory, but they bring infinately more to the table. In fact, if you took the early Beatles and threw in a pile of New York Dolls and a shot of The Damned, you would start to approach the awesomeness that is The Pink Spiders.
To prove this, here's a link to one of my favorite songs of theirs with a devilishly creepy video filmed in a grainy 70's porno-style and filled with hot chicks -they look like they could play roller derby to me- and creepy furries.
