I have heard of this software I know nothing about it but here is the site

Has anyone ever used this. I have heard people talk about it and they really liked it.  But no one wanted to part with a link to the site.  I stumbled across it when on wikipedia  

So if you try this out. Come back here and give us a review on it.   And post some links to what ever you make in this article for others to see.

Im not trying it now because i have vista and it doesnt say its for vista yet.  I might break out the old computer and install it this weekend if I get time.

do you think you will try it?
My son just mentioned this the other day. I said to him that I need a program to download images from my camera to the computer and he said this was the open source program of his choice. He reads computer magazines as if they are going out of style but I've not yet checked it out. I don't know if it works for Vista or for older Windows versions. You can go to gimp.org, not com, org. I'm going to look into it soon.
We can both review it and let each other know, k?

I don't have time to check it out, but they do have a chat board there. Perhaps you could read waht others have to say about their experiences with the program.

I've used it for a year or so. It's a very capable image editor. If you're looking for something that does a lot of hand holding you would probably be more at home with Paint Shop Pro or PhotoImpact. They do cost a bit more.

I'd rate the GIMP as more capable than anything you can buy for under $100 street price. It does require that you spend some time learning all of the features. The help file, which is a separate download, is monstrous. There are web sites with tutorials although they tend to address specific features rather than an overview for the beginner.

I wouldn't recommend this for a total beginner in image processing. If you would like to try something free that does offer a lot of help for the beginner, I'd suggest Picasa. It's free from Google.
BTW, it works on Vista.

My son the IT Director at a college uses this ALL the time. He says its as good as Photoshop. Best part about it, is its FREE.

I have the program but havn't explored it yet. After a quick look at it, it looks like a paint program more than a photo editor.

Have you tried Picassa2 ? I find it really user friendly and it does work with Windows Vista.

I had it a while back when I lost PSP. I didn't really find it very user friendly and after I uninstalled it all my image files were branded as being GIMP files. I still to this day don't know what made them stay that way after the program was gone.

I personally was not impressed (as I said earlier I uninstalled it) and I stay with my trusty PSP instead.
