I have just finished The Arabs: Journeys Beyond the Mirage by David Lamb, which is an excellent read. The Los Angeles Times accurately describes the book as "Perhaps the best effort to examine the Middle East using a mixture of anecdote, description, and analysis to bring the region to life." Mr. Lamb lived in the Middle East for four years as a reporter for The Times. First published in 1987, The Arabs was updated and republished in 2002. It is interesting, insightful and very readable.
Since I am in the groove, I just started Looming Tower. Sayyid Qutb was a very strange person.
