Right now I have a bunch... The Fountain (this was filmed in such a unique way & I love the plot) Aliens (the only movie that gives me nightmares & I love it) Serenity (one of the best sci-fi flix ever made) What the Bleep Do We Know? (kinda a physics documentary) The Protector (Tony Jaa rocks!) The Painted Veil (great soundtrack I love the piano pieces)
I just laugh everytime I watch it. I do not know why but I get silly and laugh right along with 'Arthur'. Perhaps it all comes down to Dudley Moore's laugh was contagious or prehaps he was just THAT funny!
That's a hard question...I have too many. I guess I'll just name a few. Goodfellas, I've seen it a million times, and love it every time I watch it. I also love Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I guess because Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro did such a great job with those characters...I couldn't tell it was Johnny Depp the first time I watched it!
Hmm.... Lord of the Rings (I don't know why, but I love em!) TMNT (I loved the original movies, but this one is hilarious!) The Goonies (Gotta love it! HEY YOU GUYS!!!! =P) and Van Helsing (Vampires...yay)
My favorite movie is Stardust. It is a beautiful story about love, and acceptance. I just really adore it. My second favorite movie is Say Anything, which is about a young guy trying to woo the valedictorian of his graduating class. It's a really sweet story too.
Fantasia. Blazing Saddles. 2001 a Space Odyssey. Back To the Future. Still undecided about Lord of the Rings series. Had to go see Live Free or Die Hard just to see the helicopter taken out with a car, as far as I'm concerned that stunt was worth the price of admission.
I'm with you, Betty. "A Walk in the Clouds" is one of my all-time favorites. "Cannery Row" with Nick Nolte and Debra Winger is probably my favorite, with a close second of "Milagro Beanfied War". But I rent "The Wizard of Oz" every Thanksgiving.
I love movies that don't require note-taking...........
This adaptation of Bronte's tortured tale of love and vengeance has never been surpassed. It has so many of my favorite themes. The unlikely rise to power of an adopted urchin by a well off family. Forbidden love. Betrayal. Revenge and madness. Exquisite! I am Heathcliff!
I'd have to say "What's Up, Tiger Lily?" (and probably NOBODY knows this movie...) It was a cheesy spy picture that Woody Allen bought outright and then recorded an entirely DIFFERENT movie over the soundtrack... it is (in a word) HILARIOUS! and I've probably watched it a thousand times!
I also have warm spots in my heart for "The Black Rose" (featuring a VERY young and, believe it or NOT, SEXY Orson Wells... ;o) ) and "Station 6, Sahara" a "D" collaboration between U.S., Australian & German filmakers starring Carol Baker and Peter Van Eyck -- don't ask me why... I LOVE that movie... and... more...
When I was a child (back in the dinosaur ages), my parents would load up my sister and me in our '52 Chevy and go to the Riverside Drive In for dollar night (one dollar per carload). My little sister would sit up front with my folks and I would hang over the front seat and watch some of the best movies ever made. I got to where I would say what the characters were going to say before they would say it, which (since I was five or six-years-old) sort of creeped out my folks. I've loved movies ever since. Movies and novels are distinct art forms. I've notice that many of the romance chapters seem to be heavily influenced by movies and the writers try things that can work in a screenplay but not a novel. Anyway, here is my all-time list going back to the beginning of time (just my favorites, because we all have different tastes and different things resonate with us). --Laz
Classic Drama: It's a Wonderful Life (my kids like to watch it with me to see me cry) Current Drama: Cast Away (What does it take from an actor to be the only human character for 2/3 of a film?) Classic Romance: Casablanca (they say when they were making it they had no idea how good it was) Current Romance:Cold Mountain (totally screwed at the Oscars, but ought to be a classic) Classic Comedy: Harvey (whenever he's asked, "May I help you?" only Jimmy Stewart can get away with saying, "what did you have in mind?") Current Comedy: The Family Stone (chaos can be fun) Classic Western: (okay, so I grew up in Oklahoma & Texas) Shane Current Western: The Outlaw Josey Wales (okay, so it's not that current) Classic Sci Fi: Gorgo (scared the hell out of me when I was five) Current Sci Fi: The Thing (still scares the hell out of me; just edged out Aliens II) Classic Horror: The Horror of Dracula (Peter Cushing as Van Helsing, Christopher Lee as Count Dracula) Current Horror: Wolf (I think that's the title; Michele Pfeifer and Jack Nicholson)
See its to hard for me to decide. I'm not sure I could even do it by genre. Yes Laz is correct on Wolf for that title. I'm not sure I could even choose a favorite from the list everyone has provided.
There are several movies I like seeing over and over. I can't say that I have any one particular favorite, but one movie that truly stands the test of time is "A Knight's Tale" with Heath Ledger. It's charming, funny, heartwarming, silly and romantic. (Heath Ledger and Paul Bettany add to the charm by being very handsome) I also love the movie "Serenity" based on the TV series "Firefly". Excellent sci-fi adventure romp. Other favorites: Pretty Woman, Roxanne, Real Genius, National Treasure and The Incredibles. I could go on for many pages. I love movies. All you have to do is look at my Netflix list. It's maxed out. =)
My all time favorite movie is "The Outsiders". It's also my favorite book. Every time I read it or watch it, I cry. It turned me into a Robert Frost fan as well, with that poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay". It's the best.
There are so many great movies out there that I love, but the one that I believe will always stand out above the rest for me is "The Lord of the Rings". The movie runs true to J.R.R. Tolkien's books (minus what had to be omitted to prevent the movie from running overtime - the scourging of the Shire and absence of Tom Bombadil), and has so much heart, faithfulness of the characters to one another in adversity, incredible attention to detail in every aspect of the film, amazing fantasy storyline and graphics, totally believable acting - and it contains all those qualities that we hold dear. I hold both the books and the film in the highest esteem and will both read the books and watch the movies (and all the "making of" extras) for years and years to come.
"The Bridge on the River Kwai," a slightly offbeat epic, so well-paced that audiences didn't seem to realize how long it was. The conflict between the Japanese and British colonels was classic.
I can't narrow it down to one. The 1973 version of "Wuthering Heights" is one. "The Hours" with Nicole Kidman was the other all time favorite, but now I have to add "300". It is just too good not to.
I have two all time fav,,, romeo and Juliet,, the original one because of it was one my sister took me to see and it just was so romantic,, and the second,, is brain song,,for one Gale Sayers is a friend of my family and two it was a great movie,, my oldest sister died of luekemia and when Mr Picolo died of the same, it hit Mr Sayers and our family hard,,
I love Star Wars, Casablanca, The Way We Were, An Officer and a Gentleman, Gone with the Wind, Emma, Lonesome Dove, Out of Africa, The Man from Snowy River, It's a Wonderful Life, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Gladiator, As Good as it Gets. Too many good movies...not enough time to think it through :-)

The first seems like it's so "out there" but it says alot. And the second...I love HF movies, and the more serious side is nice to see. :)
A Walk In The Clouds comes a close second
Children of a Lesser God
I'm a big cartoon freak also. I think that is what keeps me young at heart!!!

What the Bleep Do We Know? (kinda a physics documentary)

Dune - I know, cheesy movie. But I love the way the sandworms emerged from the sand. :)
I love movies that don't require note-taking...........
