FOG TIPTOES ACROSS THE WATERS

Fog whispers across the garden

lulling toads and spiders within

Fog tiptoes across the waters

obscuring the distant shores

Fog hovers above the lilypads

where the damselflies chance to land

Fog blankets my world this dawn

holding sacred secrets in her hand

cyclical secrets from the dawn of history

fly south at the crack of dawn.

hi, simply lovely and calming.....love the 3rd shot showing reflection of what appears to be snow-capped mountains?....and also love this line "Fog tiptoes across the waters"

Just got through re-editing jr and posted it to your new group. As you can see fall came early at dawn to our pond.

Layla...it didn't come as silently as I said....it came in loud squawks and honks...a whole chorus, in fact. Thought I was at the Opera House this morning!

Mr. Bill, I have to confess, this is the FIRST poem I've ever written. Started out with a narrative and then I thought how could I rearrange these words, deleting some, and let it flow like the fog. Over the past nine months on Gather, I have read some pretty fine poetry that has really appealed to my senses...and thought to myself...why not try to fashion a poem from these words. Thank you for the compliment, though it is undeserved at this point. It did make my day!

Cheryl, Faith, Jan H, Amy and Magi....you have all been an inspiration to me in this world of poetry. I have read your poems over and over and wondered why I couldn't fashion words in the manner that you so easily did and capture the essence, the feelings, the aliveness of a moment. I actually wrote Jan H. to tell me the secrets that a poet must possess in order to say in a few words that which takes me "a ramble" to say. I am honored with your positive responses...I truly did not expect them...my hope was only that you would see me struggling and lend me a hand. Feel free to offer constructive criticism if need be.

Jessie, guyana for your kind compliment.....you know, I'm going to get a big head you guys and actually think I'm a poet!!!!Now that would be a farce.

Ina...what about some of mine....ex. "What is Your Cat Reading This Summer?" or "Froggin' With Tuck" Writing should be fun...not a task...and if you need a laugh, just clicking away, uploading and think your silly thoughts. That's what I do some times. This on the other hand, took a little work. As you can see, I tend to be verbose!

Faith, it surely is my first. I was raised in Catholic Schools where we had to memorize Poe, Longfellow and all the rest of those old guys and write the poem from memory the next day in class. By the time I left high school I could care less if I ever read another poem in my life. Then I had the boys and what did they like...poetry...first Dr. Seus (who I abhored) and then Shel Silverstein. It's with Shel, I started to learn poems could bring pleasure. But it was not till Gather did I start reading poems in earnest.

Beautiful photo illustration. Fog has a bit of mystery and you layer in the wonderful elements of nature quite nicely. I love the line, 'holding sacred secrets in her hand' and then to let us lnow this is cyclical and from the dawn of history is a perfect summation.

Just yesterday, the fog hovered in puffs on the river out my window, puffs that flowed with the current. I wish I had taken a picture.
