Our Field Trip To The Interstate Fair

Last Friday was the opening day of the Spokane Interstate Fair.  I take care of my four year old grandson Monday through Friday while his older two siblings are in school.  We have "school" at my house where he works on writing, numbers, reading, etc. Last spring we made a field trip to the Children's Museum.  This fall our first field trip was to the fair.

 We arrived shortly after the gates opened.  We looked at lots of the exhibits, especially the entries made by kids.  He enjoyed seeing all the crafts that other children had made and entered.  The kiddie rides didn't open until noon, so after the exhibits he decided to ride on one of the llamas.  He loved that and wanted to keep going back for more rides. Then we went over to the animal barns and saw the cows, pigs, horses, rabbits, chickens, sheep and goats.

 

 

 

 

 

It was time for a snack before hitting the rides.  My favorite treat is an elephant ear. He didn't think that sounded too good until I got it and he ate at least half.  Perhaps he had thought it would be from a real elephant!

He rode each of the rides once and wanted to go back for more.  I knew his parents were coming again the next day so assured him he could ride everything again on Saturday.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We had to go get some more food then.  I bought a maple nut ice cream cone and he got a dish of strawberry ice cream. He then decided he liked mine better so I got stuck with the strawberry.  At the hot tub display, he thought we should be allowed to get in and test how they worked.  Unfortunately, the sales people didn't think that was a good idea.

 

 

 

His dad was in the Army so he stopped to check out this tank from the Army National Guard.

 

 

 

 

We finally had lunch before leaving.  When you are with grandma, you can sometimes have dessert first!

pretty cool to get such special treats while the rest have to go to school...I bet he gets a lot of milage out of that :)

In my family, the rule is you have to hit 50 years of age before you have dessert before the main mail. I wonder why that rule is always broken!!!!

Arent Grandma,s bad. We let them do things they shouldnt.LOL. Mine was a Navy Brat and I didnt get to see her enough that she even really knows me. Thank God you get to spend this quality time with Liam, Caty and Jacob. Hope I got the name right.
That is a memory they will always have. With pictures to help.

Seems like one little kid had a really, really good day with Grandma.
Looks like a great day, Wilma. We took our granddaughter to the fair last month and forgot the camera. Our phones actually got a couple of good pictures, though.

We always let the kids have dessert first, here. I don't want to raise them. I just want to spoil the heck out of them.

I remember dessert's first with my gran! And I remember visiting fairs and looking at army tanks. I wanted to wander round and eat ice cream with him.

I hope to get our day at the Interstate fair posted on here this week too. Got some good photos I hope. Stories to tell. We had fun but boy am I tired still we went yesterday afternoon.

And isn't it great when you get to have your 'spoil them' grandma days, which I'm sure you cant do all that often having to be 'sensible primary carer' so much of the time. Reading this I felt so happy for you.

Yes, William, Marge was handling the llama rides. Every so often she would get on one and go for a ride herself.

Wilma my friend dont work to hard. Now thats hard to do in a hospital, where people are depending on you. Maybe if I get sick again I need to transfer to your Hospital. I bet my friend would take good care of me. Just like she does those cute little grandkids.

What a great day for you and Liam! He's soooooooo cute I'd have to buy him ice cream first too. I'll bet he pictured the elephant ear as an elephant's ear:),LOL. Thanks for sharing your special day!

Looks like everyone had fun times at the fair! Our fair opened today but we're not going until next week. I can't wait to take the kids. I'm only taking the oldest two though, I don't think my 2 year old would enjoy as much as they will.

flit ~ His older brother got to go that night with a friend, and then the whole family went the next day. He does like to do 'special' stuff with grandma as he thinks the bigger kids are lucky getting to go to school.

Marge ~ I am not sure who had the most fun, probably 50-50. I was amazed that he was able to walk for 3 1/2 hours. Usually he would get worn out before then.

You got the names right, Norma. Yes, I hope they will have lots of memories of what they did with me as children.

What a darling time you two had. Oh, I am beginning to be a bit envious. I have no grandchildren and don't believe we ever will. But we have a nephew here in town we are very close to. You make me think it is time to take him to the zoo. Wilma, we lived in Bremerton for 18 months. I loved Washington State. There was a state park 3 blocks from our apartment and we camped there many times. We loved it. The ferns in Washington are like none I have ever seen anywhere else. It was a very nice state to live in. People were very accepting and kind.

Bremerton is in a nice area with its proximity to the water. Hope you do take your nephew to the zoo, Lynn. Little kids are fun to entertain. They entertain you more than you entertain them!

They did have fun. Jacob's team lost and we don't keep track of goals for the 4 year olds. There were several made as they don't have goalies. They are just there for fun.

Rhoda, this little fellow and I ARE really close. I have taken care of him since the day he was born and he is nearly 5. When he starts school next year, I will probably start volunteering at school.

I have a 4 yr old grandson named Gavin who lives with me part of the time because his Dad moved back in here to continue college. And he is just adorable too! Aren't they just a hoot at that age!! And I just love those "I love you Grandmas"!!!!
