I live in middle class suburbia, where I know my neighbors. There is quite a collection of interesting characters around here. There is only one that is whacked out and not too friendly. He lives next door. He has some mental issues, and is on disability. We came to a truce a few years back, so he quit looking in my windows with a flashlight. He also called the cops on me, when the kids accidentally hit his house in a water balloon fight.
The guy across the street, Romero, is pretty cool. He just split up with his wife, and lives there alone. He is always willing to give me a hand with some things. He seems to be sowing his oats a bit after the split, and drinking a bit too much, but he is a good guy.
Now Deb Jo around the corner is totally eccentric. She is truly the crazy cat lady. She captures stray cats. She dresses really funky, and talks a mile a minute. It is not unusual to see her up on a ladder in some crazy outfit or walking outside to get a cat in her bathrobe. She is a crack up!
Dave and Darcy are pretty cool, and my daughter plays with her daughter quite a bit. She is a trainer at 24 hour fitness, and looks like a man. She has a one year old, and looks like she never had a baby. Dave's parents live across the street, and they are nice. Reuben is an old man, and he likes to sit outside and watch the kids play.
Well, that is just a few people that live in my neighborhood. I like the feeling around here. Everyone watches out for each other and each other's children. What are your neighbors like? Do you get along with them?

I'd love to read more about your experiences with the neighbors. How about writing some stories about them and specific events? I would read them!
We've had a few garage sales, and there is a man down the street who wants every DVD we have for sale. He bought my belly-dancing training video. LOL
A Phillipino family across the street always decorates extravagantly for Christmas and sit around their driveway on Friday nights with friends.
The woman next door helped us with our first garage sale -- older and eccentric, she came out with her cold beer at 9am. ;)
Great article!!
Beauty and the Geek
On my other side is a duplex. There are always college students living there but the owner does the best job picking tenants. I have never had trouble.
We did have one guy we called pee pee man in the neighborhood but thankfully he moved. You don't want to know why he was called pee pee man. GROSS!!!
Now, we have a quiet (single) guy downstairs that we barely hear. Friday night was the first time we actually heard his TV!
Neighbors wave and say hi but no personal interaction. We miss that as we had that when we lived in NY.
We have a great relationship with our landlord and he just lives up the road. We get invited to pick berries, beans, etc. Gary and Rick have a friendship going on and share their talents to help each other out. Gary is computer geek so he helped Rick, Rick is a mechanic so he helped us with a simple repair job. He's helping Gary build a kiln for his clay sculptures.
My neighborhood is very quiet. Mostly retired people. They aren't REAL friendly, but you always know you can count on them in a pinch. My favorite is a man named Rufus, who is legally blind...we go to the gym together...he holds on to the rails and let's it just RIP! There, he doesn't have to worry about running in to anything. He also makes the best soul food in the whole world--even better-- HE SHARES !;-)
First Chapters Romance Contest Your Gift To Me
Wow, you're right, Sue. What a colorful cast of characters you have there! It sounds like a great neighborhood, and like you're all pretty close (though perhaps you may not want to be with some!). I wish I had that in my neighborhood. While we're on the subject, though, I just posted a discussion about annoying neighbors, and I would love your input! You know, the neighbors that you may or may not have that get up early on Saturday to mow the lawn, or something equivalently irritating. Anyway, if you have a chance and you'd like to comment, here's a link. Thanks so much!
