As you may have heard, a prominent family of Swabian-Americans "disappeared" from this website yesterday, for reasons unknown, but likely related to the unauthorized use of humor and creativity. They were not the first to meet this fate.
Fellow Gatherites, we must not stay quiet while this dirty war is going on! We must not allow los desaparecidos to be forgotten! Who knows where this will end? You do not want to be saying a few months from now "First they came for the Swabians and the fictional characters, but I did not speak up, because I was not a Swabian or a fictional character...."
Stand up now, and demand freedom of parodic expression for all Gatherites, regardless of their race, ethnicity or sexual orientation! Stop the oppression and discrimination!
As a closeted Danube Swabian, unfortunately I do not speak the Swabian language. I do however know a single phrase, which my mother remembers her Swabian-speaking grandmother scream as she was chasing the chickens in the yard, and I offer it in solidarity with the Subaheim-Wurbizers. It sounded something like "leckmimarsch!", and it was later identified by a German speaker as the "Swabian Greeting", a phrase so popular that even Mozart wrote a canon with it as its title. Feel free to use the phrase and scream it in the direction of the the junta responsible for the fate of the many desparecidos of Gather.

Oh well. "leckmimarsch!"
Okay. Let me see if I have it right "Leck mich im Arsch, Gather!"
Nice motto, Charles--tres catly.
Priceless.

HEIL GERACE!
Does Leck mich im Arsch mean lick my ass? I'm not very good with Swabian lingo.
(The second link in the article provides both the literal and idiomatic translations, and Joanne has quoted them too.)
My god, they're coming for BONGO!!! We've got to stop this!
I saw the definition after making my comment. I had only opened one the first time and it was in German. So I didn't open the second one.
They could have a "fall tree leaves" contest any time now. Halloween picture contest? Look out for those.
It's not a comfortable position to be in.
Almost every site I have visited has the same sort of content. You can't avoid it, really. So I just try to concentrate on the subjects that interest me, and won't connect to that which doesn't interest me.
As for the little scandal over the Wurbizer's, most probably don't have a clue what that was all about, and probably don't care, as we go about doing our own thing. Hope you get it cleared up soon so you can move on. If not, I hope you just move on rather than drag it out with constant articles repeating the same thing. What ever the offense, it's between those who were involved and Gather. Mass mail them with your complaints. That seems to work for the public when going after Politicians and Corporations after reading one article in the news, or blogs on the Internet. Not everyone feels as passionately as you do about this, and will eventually view it as harassment.
I was under the impression that harassment was repeated hostile activity directed toward a person or group. I didn't look it up in the dictionary but it sounds right to me.
I should have worded that better, News Hound. For me, it isn't about wanting people to pay attention to me, or what I do here. It's about being able to find what I want to pay attention to. Gather (and some members) think the problem is solved if I look at my Daily Orange Juice, keep my nose in my own connection block or on my MY GATHER page. I think that is like sending the good kid to the corner so the monster child won't run over him. It is unfair to new members and those who are interested in watching for their work.
This site is far from a "writers' site" and so be it. It's money for Gather, gift cards for us. Do you really think many people appreciates anything worthwhile here? There are far better places to exhibit your "writing" or your creative ideas.
So what if we plaster the site with the "same" articles, which, by the way, are NOT the same. Even though they're on the same subject, different people wrote their own varying ideas as to what is going on, and none are the same.
Heil Gerace!

Sandy, this is what I do. I look for interesting subjects and people and go from there. Then I mostly do stay on my own gather page and keep up with the people I've connected with, or subscribed to. Most of the time I receive the connection requests. I then check to see if I'm interested in what they post, if not I refuse the connection. Not wanting to see games, I make sure I don't connect to those who engage in them. Often I search the highest rated, most read lists, and find interesting material there. I've learned to never search in the most discussed list, as I will not find anything of interest. That's where the majority of games seem to be. Or maybe I have it backwards, maybe they're on the most read. I can't seem to remember correctly now.
Sandy, I was a little surprised last weekend when it seemed to me that you were seeking out only those who posted things that weren't of interest to you, because when I came to my front page, it was full of snide comments from you. I subscribed to you because occasionally you publish something of interest to me concerning news or politics. Not wanting to see this sort of behavior, or the games, email posts, and those who have difficulty communicating in English, on a constant basis, I wondered if I should end my subscription with you. In other words, you brought the type of things I attempted to avoid to my front page. I've tried very hard to make my front page matter to me.
It wasn't me. I had been studying the proper use of the term "It is I" which i saw on a vanity license plate on the back of someone's car today. That has been occupying my time, along with trying to keep up with Nalita's love-in. But I did want to thank you for your story told completely with comments at my last message.
