AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!! Computer problems....

       Last night I went on the computer and checked my e-mail. I was commenting on all my connections articles and pictures by clicking the links in the e-mails. After a while, I noticed that the pages weren't loading. Guess what?! I couldn't get onto Gather! I still had a lot of things to read and comment on. Plus I had lots of articles to post and points to make! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!

       Today I get on my computer, and it is going really slow! It has been taking forever to get through all my e-mails (I am taking a break so I can publish something while I am here!) and everything is loading really slow. Luckily, I can at least get on Gather!

       Anyways, I just had to get that out of my system. I feel better now! LOL!

Is it just on Gather that you are having the problem? Can you go on other websites with no problem? Check that out.

I would contact your isp if you are having problems with all sites. I would also check your firewall/security software.

To troubleshoot, check to see if other websites are loading okay. Run your anti spyware and virus scan programs. If you have a virus or spyware on your computer, it will slow the computer.

You know... sometimes I think that technology is much more trouble than it's worth. It seems that everything goes wrong when you least want it to. Good luck getting it working well again!

last night, there were some sites i could go to and others that i couldn't. it was kind of hit or miss what i could get on to.

today, i can get on everything, it is just really slow. hopefully it will be better when i get on later.

That would drive me crazy! can't help other than commiserate though. My computer fixing is generally along the lines of,"Computer broken! Make computer go!"

DUDE!!! I know - my computer was down for a day (cable problems) and I was seriously having a panick attack!!! I was like - OMG - no gather today - but I'll imss something - it will take me forever to catch up -I haven't even been her a whole month yet and I'm psycho crazy for this site!!!

If you have some adware/spyware programs, I would run them. Also, maybe do a virus scan on your computer. Sometimes, without even knowing it, we can get some stuff that slows our computers down. Spyware Doctor and AdAware are really good programs, Search and Destroy also, (which I think you can download for free). Good luck with your computer. If you have these, you may want to do a run on them at least weekly.

Amy, I agree with what JF said above about running Anti-virus and anti-spyware..there's some other things that can slow it down too, such as how many browsers/online programs you run at the same time...they all use bandwith from your net connection.

There might have been something going around.

I had a similar problem on Wednesday. For me, it was not only the Internet, but *everything* on my computer - the word processor (long delays in processing input from the keyboard - like one character every several seconds), games (so slow that I couldn't play). It started while I was on the Internet - my browser was running so slowly that I couldn't even scroll. I finally gave up and it took at least 20 minutes for my computer to shut itself down. Now, it's working fine - at normal speed - no more problems.

Oh-oh, now the Windows Installer is running. I'm not aware of any software being installed right now... Okay, I canceled.

i'm still having problems today! there is so much i wanted to do on here but haven't gotten a chance! argh! oh well......

if your isp is verizon they have been having problems. one day i could get email but could not see any images in the emails. some sites worked and some didnt. It was strange i rebooted my modem and then i couldnt do a thing. Its still been a bit slow
