This week, I realized one of my dreams, I spotted a BALD EAGLE. I realize that this may seem a silly dream, but since beginning our camping/RVing experience seven years ago, it was also the beginning our bird watching. The Bald Eagle, is the most treasured of birds, the biggest, most American, really the holy grail of birds. And so it was natural that for Sandy and I wanted it was the bird we were most anxious to see.
Now, I am sure that each of you knows how that goes when you are trying to catch a dream, it’s like trying to hard, no matter what you do, success is unattainable. And so it was that wherever we went or whatever we did, the Bald Eagle eluded us. It became our personal millstone, fellow birdwatchers and campers would all say, “Oh, sure”, whenever we mentioned our quarry, “we saw a one just”: down the river, or up the canyon, or over in the valley. But it didn’t much matter because Sandy and I did not see one, at all.
BUT ON SUNDAY, MARCH 11, 2007 THE MILLSTONE WAS LOOSED…AND WE HAVE A BIRDING JOURNAL ENTRY – SPOTTED BALD EAGLE, IN FLIGHT. Alas, Sister Sandy was not outside….. But now our fate has changed we will probably see the eagles everywhere we go…. Isn’t it just like that.
