Do you have vista and what do you think of it? I have a new computer. I have yet to plug it in and turn it on.
I know my old computer inside and out. I can open up the windows registry and pull out viruses with out the help of a scanner. But this old thing is almost dead. But Im finding it hard to put it away and set the new one in its place. I think I fear vista LOL. I dont want to experiance a virus in it for the first time LOL it was a nightmare when i first got 98SE.
So what should i know about the system before i turn it on. Come on I want to hear the good and the bad.

Vista takes twice as long to start up and twice as long to close down as my old Windows
I haven't had too many other problems with it.
A patch/update finally fixed it but it was darn near unusable til it was fixed.
Which is why I'm still offline and without a PC as we are having our XP PC repaired rather than buy another Vista PC.
Id love to have gotten my old computer repaired but it would have cost more than 349 that i paid for the new one. so i had to go the cheapest way. But Im not happy about it
what i have heard is you dont want to upgrade an older system to vista a lot of older systems dont work right with it
once you get it on it is a nightmare to remove. my daughters IT teacher doesnt even want to deal with vista. they are learning now how to install windows 2000 and linix on the same hard drive. windows 2000 is the system of choice out there for some reason.
The bad things I have heard are from folks upgrading .
Seems to work ok on factory installations though .
I never upgrade until they have time to get all the bugs out.
I do hope you don't find you will need more memory.
For us, fixing the old PC (replacing power supply, processor AND motherboard) was cheaper than the $300 something it'd be for a new PC) We are told the repairs will be around $150... I guess we got lucky...
I also just had my HD crash and spent days without a pc, so I don't want to upgrade, have problems, and be without again!
I did do the advisor and it suggest that I would have to upgrade my video card to use some of the Aero features. What in the heck are those??
Vista has some really nice features if you are running it on the right hardware with the right software. In my view, it is too bloated and runs too slow for a "new" OS, but it can be interesting. A would like it for marketing presentations if I wasn't using a MAC.
If I was buying a new machine and the old one wasn't dying, I'd wait for Windows7.
I just bought an Apple iMac a month or so ago, and I love it. That said, it is not perfect either.
I am sick of the whole computer paradigm, where these companies are trying to make it seem like these things are so overly-complicated they are willing to spend lots of money to fix them, and they are OK with being spied on.
1984 is here, you are being watched, and will be watched much more in the future.
