Day trips are a wonderful activity to help you get away and have fun on a whim. Yet a lot of us don’t make these trips because how are you supposed to know what to do or where to go? Especially if your on a budget or have a backseat full of picky children.
Here are a few ideas on day trips in your area that shouldn’t cost you a lot and are perfect for a group with varying interests and short attention spans. Not only should these ideas keep everyone interested, you may even walk away with some free souvenirs to remember the day.
The first thing you can do to plan a day trip is to call your local tourist center. Ask if they have any recommendations, and add these to your list. Other places to add to your list can include factories or plants of products made locally. Look in the phone book or search online to see what’s near you if you don’t already know. Farms could also be interesting, and many have activities planned throughout the year. Nature preserves or national parks are a great alternative to the zoo, because you get to see animals, plants, and insects in their natural habitat and can safely tour the grounds on your own or as part of a group. There are also museums of many different types. If your group isn’t really interested in paintings or sculptures, how about a classic car museum or a veterans museum full of weapons, lol. Another great idea is touring historic houses or places in your area. Many of these also have actors or actresses dressed in the era or playing out roles of what daily life was like then.
You can plan a day trip to suite almost any ones interests. Just ask the people who will be making this trip what they would like to see or do, and try to find something that will fit in with at least some of these wants.
Just remember to call ahead or do some research on places you would like to visit. Many offer tour days or have special activities planned at certain times or on certain days. Doing this will also give you an opportunity to find out how much you can expect to spend, if spending anything other then gas money.
