So Im working on some stuff on my computer (Gather among other things) and heard sirens blaring outside, then next thing I know the building fire alarm's going off and I hear people shuffling out. I decided to do the same. Turns out there was an actual fire in my apartment building. They had about 8 fire trucks here and various other volunteers, police, even the Channel 3 news.
It was down on the lower level, opposite end from me in a vacant apartment. I guess a worker in there was using a glue gun and a torch on some tiles and it caught fire. They ended up destroying that apartment and I guess 2 or 3 apartments around it had to be vacated , with several others having their doors bashed in to check for people.
I'm back in my place now safely and just have my window open and fans going to try to air it out, just in case. They said the smoke/CO2 levels are at a safe level, but you can never be too safe...It's good nobody was hurt and the firemen did a great job of isolating things and getting us all back into our residences. At the same time, I feel for the people who had to leave their apartments and go stay at a motel. Hope everyone is safe and well tonight.

Dawn, funny you mention that, because a few months ago, the fire alarm was going off and woke me up in the AM. So I decided to evacuate, then see a sign on the front lobby door "Alarm testing today, please disregard"....ok so what if a real fire happened then? lol
Just feeling good that you and everyone else is safe. I pick at you so much, but it's because I like you. To hear something like this is quite disturbing. Just glad you are safe, my friend.
Whew! Something like this could almost make me a Bear sympathesizer.
NOT!
Just as an update they just ran the story on the news here with camera footage and saw myself clearly standing in the rain...so, Bird if you can find the footage, you'll see me ;)
