Disturbed anti-war protester can't find soldier, kills civilian with axe instead

I have run across a lot of the anti-war group. A lot of them are filled with hate and vengence. It seems like the movement attracts them.

You tell me. But as extreme acts go, war has got to be right at the top end of the scale.

Clearly a mentally ill man. It has nothing to do with being anti-war and everything to do with being insane.

I'd say crazy like a fox. Can't find a soldier? I don't think so. Recruiters are everywhere. This guy went for the vulnerable. A soldier would have put him down in two moves, any soldier. We have a culture that just needs an excuse to kill, any excuse will do for some morons.

How sad for that man and his family (the one killed that is). No matter who perpetrated it, violence like this is heartbreaking.

It is a sad irony. Obviously, not everyone practices what they preach.

All the hate speech from left wing kooks are creating this hysteria. Pretty sad.

A heartbreaking story. The man was obviously mentally disturbed. But to take such an isolated incident as this and attribute it to anyone who is against the war is, I believe, pretty hateful.

Good question. It is the right of the anti-war movement to express their views, and I respect those who are honestly doing it because they dont like war. But I cannot respect those who are moing it out of mallace and hate for Bush or our soldiers, which makes up a large part of the movement. You never hear of any "pro-war" people murdering those who disagree with them.

Obviously, this was a deranged individual. However, MDP is correct about the antiwar left, and the left in general attracting these types. Think Abby Hoffman, author of "Steal This Book," which I learned to make bombs from, as a pre-teen. How many Gatherers remember the Weathermen, who rocked the nation with their left-wing terrorist bombings? I was a liberal for most of my life, and know that not all libs have such hateful and violent thoughts. The only problem for them are the facts. When leftists protest, they damage things. Whether it's ALF, ELF, or the groups that constantly gather at WTO meetings and G8 summits, the trend is to break things, and fight with law enforcement. It's among the reasons I embraced conservatism, while still embracing classical liberal ideals. That, and I woke up from the liberal dogma that was ingrained on me from my childhood, growing up in NYC during the '60's and '70's.

It's a shame.

The right wing has it's crazy killers too. Eric Rudolph comes to mind. The Columbine killers were right wing idealizers too. I'm sure they were even "pro-war" with their guns and such. (If anyone can really be "pro-war"...lets fight the whole world...more war! If anyone is "pro-war" then they probably qualify as crazy!) You can support a particular war, but I hope no one is "pro-war".

Christopher don't you see a problem with these sweeping generalizations? You use the Weatherman as an example of liberalism in the 60's. That was a handful of people. So what about the thousands and thousands of people who peacefully sat in or marched against the war or for civil rights? Why paint them all with the same brush? Would you be offended to see a post that said conservatives are doctor killers and abortion clinic bombers? What about that horrible handful of 10 people or less that travel to the funeral of dead gay soldiers and hold up horrible signs and harass the mourners? Would you like me to say " Well that's why I am not a conservative?" There are extremists on both sides. Before there was Fox News it was possible for me to have a dialogue with conservatives. Now all I hear are catch phrases and generalizations.

You ignore all of the vicious, unending hatred, violent or not, from the insane rightwing freaks, focus on one incident with an anti-war protest freak, and make a general, broad, sweeping statement to infer that ALL hatred and anger stems from the anti-war movement? Could you possibly be any more hypocritical and ignorant?

Go google some of the hate-filled, violence-imbuking rhetoric from the likes of Hannity, O'Reily, Coulter, Limbaugh, Savage, etc., etc., etc. sometime, if you need an education on hatred and anger. It wasn't the left that started the divisive hatred that exists in today's politics.

Clark, yes some say things you disagree with. But no groups are more hatefilled than this anti-war movement. I have run into a lot of these people and they are repulsive. If you dont agree with them they curse at you and spit at you and make it impossible to enjoy american landmarks. It is a disgrace to our country

Savage constantly issues death wishes upon liberals. Limbaugh openly hates gays and blacks with his unending bigoted diatribes. On and on and on and on. There is no hatred as that which the extremist rightwing fringe casts upon America and those who dare to think differently than they.

Okay and Bill Mahuer advocated for the assasination of Dick Cheney. All of who you list are doing so with words. Words are one thing taking to the streets and disrupting outhers is another. You are either anti-war or you will be assaulted and harrased by these nimrods.
