The Mad Flagger has struck again

I got this message on the article I posted to help an animal rescue group.  I offered to give away copies of my ebook if they would donate.  But some anal twit decided to flag it as spam.  With all the self promotion that goes on daily, how is this attempt to help abandoned and neglected animals a flagable offense?  To whoever did it--go flag yourself.

By your description it sounds as if it were a solicitation; does not matter if you were also offering something in return. If it was a solicitation then it violated Gather rules and should indeed have been flagged. If I had seen it I would certainly flag any article that violates the rules. Here is gather's rule
"post messages that promote pyramid schemes, chain letters or disruptive commercial messages or advertisements, junk mail, spam, or any other form of solicitation;

But it doesn't do any of those things. it's not a scheme chain letter or commerical message. it is letting others know of a need. I am unable to directly help, so I offered my books as an additional incentive. How many posts have promoted get rich quick schemes? Or get stuff free? No one is getting rich. I do animal rescue...believe me no one gets rich.

Take it easy Theresa, I'd recommend you send email to Gather's guide and ask for their opinion, thus you know more if you're right, not right, or just in between. I believe it will clear the negative atmosphere from the flagger. I think it would be better if the flagger contact you first about what's wrong so you can amend the article, rather than just flag it. But, to some other people, when their articles get flagged, they win more friends and comments and ratings out of simpathy.

Sending anyone to a site that asks for a donation is a solicitation. If your article in fact did this is it is a clear violation of Gathers rules weather or not anyone getrs rich or not. I applaud you for caring about animal rescue but if your article sent someone to another site that asked for a donation this is solicitation and does indeed violate the rules.

I haven't been here long enough to really say much. Animal Rescue is a great cause. I support it myself, but if the others are right and directing others to a site that asks for donations is against Gather rules then I guess the flag was legit. The rules are part of what makes this place such a nice place to be. I hope all is well soon Theresa.

All I can say is that it is a bunch of crap. I see much worse things going on here. Animals are very special to me. Theresa, contact Gather and see what they say.

Theresa I dont know what to say....it seems to me that some people are ok to solicit and others are not. I havent been able to figure out why that is.

Its unfortunate that by trying to help another, your message is flagged for spam. I can hear the frustration in your words. Try not to let this eat you up and ruin your day. Don't give that person such power over yourself, Teresa. You were obviously doing a good deed and trying to help a good cause; you are a kind compassionate person, and people will recognize your efforts as such. So, shake it off and be proud for being the wonderful person that you are!

Thanks Reba, I'll take your advise. It was the first time I was flagged, so I guess I'm no longer a virgin. Gee, virgin. Do you think the flagget will flag me again?

Sometimes people flag articles just for the heck of it. But if you were requesting money, then it is considered solicitation regardless if it's a donation or not.
Theresa, you said it! I hope the infamous flagger leaves you alone from now on!
