Save money on Music

Recently, I've found download.com and have been so grateful for my discovery. I have been able to download so much free music and meet new bands and artists, that I would never have discovered had I never run into this site. I also check out cd's from my local library. I was surprised when I saw so many new and unique cd's there. All available to the public for free. I really try to cut corners and save everywhere, music is just something else I can save money on. I reccommend that others do the same

Well, when it comes to music, I try to spend money on local artists and less of it on those who have made it in the industry. I would rather be giving cash to the musicians and not the recording companies.

Good ideas, Sigriet. Add to these free or reduced price concerts for live music widely available in most genres besides pop/rock. If you're into classical, for instance, look to college and university music schools for some top notch free concerts. This probably holds true for various kinds of experimental music, too, even rock. Folk music and certain kinds of country, such as old-time and bluegrass, are also often available in free or low-cost sessions. And, a lot of these musicians are just as good as any you'd hear on the radio; besides being live, which is always a bonus. Also, high school band concerts, including jazz bands, and musicals are often very well done.

I only buy cd's if I really, really like the artist. Otherwise iI have been getting my music from the library and burning them to a disc for my personal use later. Thanks for the tip about download.com!

Jim, i will listen to your music. Thanks for sharing. It's really about previewing music firdt before buying. If i really like an artist, I will buy their c.d to support them, but I like previewing lots of new artists

Thanks, Sigriet. Incidentally, Folk Alley Open Mic, where my songs are, is a terrific site for people who are into roots/folk/Americana -- that kind of music. If previewing new musicians is what you enjoy, this is a great site. At the moment there are several thousand songs on file. Many of them are amatuerish, beginners just sounding off, but some of them are absolutely top quality up-and-comers, people you'll be hearing from a lot more in the future.

Thanks for the info. I usually go to bmg's site for a short clip of songs to see if I will like it or not. (Before my computer crashed, I had over 1000 cds in my library... now I won't even put one in.) I'll buy my cds at yourmusic.com for $6.99 each. (Most recent that I ordered was Fergie's album "The Duchess".)

Nice point on the library! We go to the library alot for dvds - especially for movies that are ones that you would probably only watch one time. That saves a boatload of money.

These are amateur home-recording hobbyists posting their songs up for free. About two or three months ago I subscribed to the Pick of the Week in "acoustic" and "folk" genres, and I've just now been listening to the backlog for the first time. Perhaps not every entry is as good as the weekly picks, but I would defy you to distinguish these amateurs from full-blown pro. They're just great.
