Complete understanding of what went on and is really going on with the government and current affairs.
what am I reading? Sarah G's comment to your post.
Right now, I'm reading Rebel Angels, the sequel to a Great and Terrible Beauty.
Please read and rate my entry:
A Scandalous Overture
It is very interesting.
The first part of the book undertakes the politics of oil and the Republican party and...to a lesser degreee, the Democratic party. The theocracy part is all repug and how repug strategy tied together oil policy and religion(end timers believe a war in the Middle East is the real deal, business needs more oil fields).
However, if you enjoy fantasy books I suggest the Sharing Knife by Lois McMaster Bujold; if you want something funny in the fantasy line I suggest either Guards, Guards by Terry Pratchett or Goblin Quest by Jim C Hines.
If you like more real life drama there's Namesake. I don't normally read dramatic books; I have enough drama in my life.
If you want romance with a dash of humor and the supernatural there's Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire by Michele Bardsley or Undead & Unwed by MaryJanice Davidson.
If science fiction is your cup of tea there's Catharine Asaro or Linnea Sinclair (I really enjoyed Accidental Goddess). You can go back to the classics with something by Andre Norton or Anne McCaffrey. If you want something that is a short run of books, there's the Fuzzy series by H. Beam Piper. Mother of Demons is also good science fiction.
If alternate history seems appealing, there's 1632 by David Weber.
