Halloween Candy

If your kids are anything like mine - they come home with buckets and buckets of candy - more than they should ever eat!  What are your views on Halloween candy?  Do you let them gorge down or do you dole it out piece by piece?

dole it out, throw it out, and give it away, and/or have a party and let everyone help themselves.

When I was a kid, I always hated the houses that gave out cheap candy. You know, the peanut butter taffy like candy in the black and orange wrappers. When I was a kid, we were only allowed to eat a few pieces each day. Personally, I will be letting my kid keep the 10% of the candy that they choose and then toss or give the rest of it away.

I usually let them pick 2 or 3 pieces a day. then after a couple days I start giving it away. to whoever happens to be around.

I don't have that problem anymore, but I used to let them have their favorites on Halloween night and doled out the rest.

They don't overindulge, so I let them eat what they want. I love the rest!!!!
Not this year I am sticking to plan.

We go to minimal houses on Halloween! Just a few friends/family members and that's it! My kids don't eat much candy. They get some Halloween candy and then the rest goes into my daughter's birthday pinata! :)

Hehe...I was always a weird kid. I never really liked candy that much. I haven't gone trick-or-treating in years, but when I did I wouldn't get even 1/8 of a bag of candy and that would last for a year or two. o_0 So my parents never really worried about it...and I haven't got any kids of my own.

You let them pig out on Halloween and then accidently leave the rest of the candy where ants can get to it.

Mine get to sugar it up that night... After that it all goes in One big pot and they get a piece here and there... dad gets some here and there.... I think it took us until January to get the last of it out of the house last year. Then again most of that was stuff I BOUGHT to give out and didn't have much luck with the Trick or treaters... it was just to cold.

When I was a kid, we actually used to put it in the freezer and whatever wasn't eaten after a month or so got tossed. But I also couldn't just gorge- it was doled out...

We let them have some fun on that night and the next day. Honestly the stash lasts til the following Halloween! I just spot check now and then for anything that needs to be tossed rather than eaten.

I let them have a few more pieces than normal on Halloween just because it is a special fun night for the kids.
But then it goes on top of the fridge and gets doled out. Usually after the kids go to bed, my husband and I have a little candy too!!

First of all, they could never have any until we got hme and went through everything to make sure they were safe. I limited the amount they could have a day. Eventually the kids themselves would end up throwing it out.

We haven't gotten there yet, but I envision something in the middle. A few pieces at a time.

Our kids out number us. They have one throw the distraction then the others take advantage.

I just read in a parenting magazine that cavity wise it would be best to let your kids eat as much as they wanted at one time and then throw it all out instead of letting them have a little each day because it'd be worse on their teeth that way.

Usually we dole it out. I'm not sure what we're doing this year.
