According to the LA Times there's speculation that because Hillary Clinton is running for President that the release of the DVD is being delayed because of concern for how it would effect her bid. There was much controversy about how Bill Clint's presidency would be perceived after the movie aired. Due to the pressure and outcry the movie was reedited to try and quell the opposition to the movie.
Harry Reid and four other democrats sent a letter to Disney saying that if the movie was released that it would "deeply damage" Disney's reputation. Should our leaders be putting this kind of pressure on the movie studio's?
According to the LA Times "Nowrasteh, also one of the miniseries' many producers, said he was told by a top executive at ABC Studios that "if Hillary weren't running for president, this wouldn't be a problem.""
Yes the movie is controversial but so was, 'Fahrenheit 9/11, and others. Is this political censorship to protect one candidates presidential bid? So should ABC be pressured not to release the DVD till after Nov '08?

Having said that, I see no reason to hold up release of the DVD. However, while it's easy to blame the Clintons for holding it up, my observations are that the studios tend to create controversy in order to hype the release of films and increase sales. Given that the movie was not considered a great work of art at the time of release, it's understandable that the studios would try to create a buzz.
Like I said David I don't see what the problem is. Whom ever is running for office should play no part in it. But like you said it could also be to increase the interest in the DVD. I think the Clintons only hurt themselves by raising the stink over the movie that they did. They could have said it's wrong and been done with it and I don't think that there would have been the interest in it that there was. The Clinton's and Reid shouting and waving the flag only made people wonder what they were objecting to.
It's kinda like Napster. At first there wern't many who even knew what it was then the RICC started throwing lawsuits and crowding the airwaves with their opposition and the the number of people who knew about and were using it jumped through the roof.
not sure if its directly a Clinton influenced thing but I'm sure there are a few lawyers circling around so ABC hasa right to be nervous...
