Senator Barack Obama is the FIRST Presidential candidate that thought YOU were important enough to introduce himself to you on Gather -- the very first.
A Presidential candidate on Gather speaking to YOU. If he has taken the time to come to Gather to speak to you, he must think you are extremely special. It's part of his grassroots effort to come out and reach the American people in every way possible. These are his first four articles:

1. Congress gave final approval to a broad overhaul of federal student loan programs today, sharply cutting subsidies to lenders and increasing grants to needy students...

4. Just what DOES Grassroots really mean? Click here to see.
Plenty of people claim to run "grassroots" campaigns, but very few have a candidate and a campaign strategy that actually live up to the term. Barack Obama is different.
Admittedly, he has writers, who help him do his writing; name a candidate who doesn't? One of them is Sam Graham-Felsen, and there are others -- as well -- that you may see in upcoming articles. It doesn't detract from the effort Barack has made to speak to you.
I don't just invite you to read his articles; I challenge you to do so.

Me too and I stand corrected. Thank you!
Peter, yaay is correct. This thing about celebrity is getting interesting. Check out this quote:
"When you think about Oprah's success in selling books, you can't laugh off the fact that she can sway many, many people."
~Donna Brazile
I wonder just who will be next? Oprah? Hmmm. That gives me an idea. I wonder if she would accept an invite. She receives suggestions on her site.
To run from "grassroots" which -- by the way -- is absolutely a brilliant effort, would be to run from the principles upon which this country was founded:
of the people
by the people
for the people
See, that's the problem
running from the people
I have to laugh for a minute because I have seen Obama just about run
towards the people (lol)
and I thought,
"This mob is Obama crazed. They will hurt you with passion."
Vicky, he didn't seem to care. His bodyguards did, but he didn't.
He reminds me of John F. Kennedy in that respect. He does not want a disconnect from the people. Hence, "grassroots."
I liked Howard Dean, mind you, but I didn't see the same connection with the people in Howard Dean that I see in Senator Obama. It's fascinating. Thanks Vicky!
If you're divided, go to
http://www.barackobama.com
because ALL your division concerns will be over.
Obama is a uniter, not a divider.
Cheerleader? No.
It's just that there are a number of issues facing this country that make it necessary to not play politics as usual. Frankly, I would rather have a female President, were I playing politics as usual. But, would that be fair to the troops over in Iraq? Just because I, Nalita want a female President for the sake of a female President? I would not be voting my conscience, and I would be selling out those troops.
NO!
The time for politicking and politics as usual needs to stop. It's time to set aside personal preferences and be adult, ask not what I want, but what is best for this country. Maybe that does make me a cheerleader . . .
GO, USA!
GO America!
GO Obama!
Okay, I accept!
You are so correct. Barack cannot save this country from the mess it is in. But let me be clear:
HILLARY CLINTON CANNOT SAVE THIS COUNTRY FROM THE MESS IT IS IN.
You seem to make Hillary into a "god" with divine powers she does not possess.
Only the one true God, called by many names by many peoples can save any body or any thing. To place that kind of faith, trust or confidence in one person is bound to be disappointing and probably dangerous. It has undertones of Hitler, of "gods", and that is disturbing.
Barack Obama NEVER said he could save this country;
he has called upon all Americans to ENGAGE in the American system AGAIN
he has resurrected from John F. Kennedy's speech a call to Americans to:
"Ask not what your country can do for you,
Ask what you can do for your country."
Engage.
See? This is probably why President Bill Clinton called Obama a "brilliant politician."
Barack has the answer; he sees the solution, and goes back to the very beginning -- engaging.
In his February 10 speech, he calls upon Americans to return to the principles upon which America was founded, the very principles the Framers envisioned when they wrote the Constitution. He repeated used the words and phrases,
"Let us be the generation . . ."
and
"we"
Calling Americans to ENGAGE! That is how American can turn this thing around.
He can't.
Hillary can't
Democrats can't
Republicans can't
Part of that speech says:
"The genius of our founders is that they designed a system of government that can be changed. And we should take heart, because we've changed this country before. In the face of tyranny, a band of patriots brought an Empire to its knees. In the face of secession, we unified a nation and set the captives free. In the face of Depression, we put people back to work and lifted millions out of poverty. We welcomed immigrants to our shores, we opened railroads to the west, we landed a man on the moon, and we heard a King's call to let justice roll down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream.
Each and every time, a new generation has risen up and done what's needed to be done. Today we are called once more - and it is time for our generation to answer that call."
I have an article with the entire speech:
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.jsp?articleId=281474977085106
I re-invite you to read that brilliant speech.
lol. You are on the wrong article for John (lol) Thanks, Judi!
True, so true! That's what's turned me around -- somewhat about engaging. I said I would NEVER become active in something like this. But Senator Obama's not just talking unity, but walking the walk . . . he is constantly reaching across the aisle and trying to work with the Republicans. Republicans fear that. Their constituents are crossing over and that doesn't look good for them when Senator Obama wins the Democratic nomination. Unity and showing his desire to unify is a message we want to see. I think we are all tired of the divisive political games.
Thanks, Brian!
You seem to represent the mood of the younger generation. At least as I talk to 17 - 24 year olds they speak more of Senator Obama than any of the other candidates. His message is apparently resonating with them, and he is getting them interesting in going to the polls. They are going to make a tremendous difference in the 2008 elections -- watch and see, and from my vantage point (their being THE 21st generation) Obama is their man AND the 21st Generation candidate with 21st generation vision and ideas!
Thanks Matt for bringing that up.
I couldn't agree with you more about the troops AND especially about the best person winning. Senator Obama has made comments many times about the election process and the reforms needed there. If you go to his website, and read what he says about it, you might be surprised to find that you and he are on the same/similar pages.
You said:
"Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton?"
For some reason, as soon as you said that this quote came to mind:
" Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
~Albert Einstein
It is time for change.
Hear. Hear.
