I am NOT afraid of terrorists! Yes, you read it correctly. The goal of terrorists is to spread terror. Therefore, anyone who fears terrorists is letting them attain their goal and win! I understand that my chances of being killed by a terrorist are miniscule! I am WAY more likely to be killed by my doctor than by a terrorist! If we are afraid, if we are giving up our civil liberties because of terrorists, then we are letting them win.
Of course we need to take precautions, and we need security at our boarders. But we don't need to let the terrorists create terror in our country!
You are more likely to be struck by lightening or die in your bathtub or die from a spider bite than to be killed by a terrorist in the US. You are more likely to die from a drug dosing error in the hospital or a staph infection after surgery. Do we run our country as to avoid these things? Do we live in fear of hospitals?
It seems that a lot of people around here seem to fear terrorists and that is just what terrorists want!

ya got a point. Call me a tree hugger, but I am frankly more concerned about global warming than terrorism. It's a big ocean, and at this point if the bad guys manage to pull off a big one, i will hang it on homeland security. What's that thing that W said "fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, we won't be fooled again.." no, never mind, my point is that there are more than one way to die, and more than one way to live.
This is a temporary thing. We will not spend the next 100 years in a death struggle with Islam. People who say "9/11 changed everything" are incorrect. No, it did not change everything. Like the red scare of the 1950's and the anti-Jacobin scare of the 1790's, it confuses long term with short term.
By all means, let's locate and eradicate Bin Laden. But do we have to listen to him and actually respond to his nonsense in the meantime?
I said in my article that we do need to secure our borders and take precautions. It would be silly not to protect our nation...as we should have been doing before 9.11. Are our ports secured?...are our borders secured?... are our nuclear power plants secured?... are our water sources secured? There is a lot more that we could be doing that would be common sense, but we'd rather illegally invade another country and destroy it leaving our homeland without adequate National Guard forces to help in emergencies. Spending money that could be used to actually make us safer instead of riling up the hornets nest of the Middle East.
What ticks most free thinkers off, is how the extream left is willing to support OBL over the security of this country. It is also a major point that the security of this country is lacking too, from both the left and the right. Even if/when we do get OBL, that will just open the door to someone that is likely as bad if not worse than he is, which is why the whole group and the other groups need to be removed from the face of the Earth.
Shari- "illegally ivade" we did not do that. Congress approved. Could we do more, yes we can. Lets work on it.
Moreover, these experts in the international law of war deem both preventive wars and preemptive strikes to be euphemistic subcategories of outlawed wars of aggression.
And the experts' answer would hold true regardless of whether their governing legal authority was: (A) the UN Security Council Resolutions that were passed to implement the conflict-resolution provisions of the UN Charter; or (B) prior treaties and juridical holdings which have long since become general international law. NOW can we get back to the topic of THIS article?
I totally agree with you on this point too!
Not sure if I'd call it "FUNNY" but it is true that this cannot happen again. Even ON 9.11.01 the knowledge of what happened to the earlier planes prevented the plane in PA from completing it's mission.
You mentioned International law. Does not apply. It is not in our Consitution. We should withdraw from the UN,etc. It all gets in the way of us being free.
If international law doesn't apply, then why were we sanctioning Iraq for not obeying international law? Wasn't our contention that Sadaam wasn't complying with the UN sanctions when we invaded?
Saddam and his sons may have terrorized his own people, but even our own administration (right before 9.11.01) stated that Iraq was NOT A THREAT! Saddam did not agree with al-Qaeda and was in no way supporting them. I don't buy your statement that there is no doubt that Saddam was supporting terrorists. The most terrorists come from Bush's favorite country, Saudi Arabia...why didn't we shock and awe them to root out the terrorists?
"I never believed in the link between Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda and Islamist terrorism," former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright flatly declared in an October 21, 2003 essay published in Australia's Melbourne Herald Sun.1
The key is to fear no one and nothing, but God. Then no one and nothing can control you.
