Democrats had always said we should listen to the Generals. Now Petraeus is here saying dont cut troops just yet and some democrats are wanting to pull out. Why not listen to the General and embrace progress.

Even though the truth is, bot sides do the same thing, it is just the Democrats that think they can do it without anyone being able to say anything about it.
I agree with Dan. It's definitely not an even playing field when it comes to opinions on Iraq.
Poliwonk, I believe what you say about the feelings in some Democratic circles, and it scares me.
MoD, thanks for the article and link. I'm convinced that I need to stay on my side of the fence, the right side. I'm too old to sit on it and jump from side to side the way some of the Dems do.
I appreciate the the link, thanks.
You pointed out part of the problem nicely: even our generals do not agree. However, accusing Democrats of listening only to the generals who agree with them implies that that Republicans do otherwise. There are undoubtedly there are Republicans who listen to those disagree with them, just as there are Democrats who listen to those who disagree with them, but there is are a few notable Republicans who have a history of ignoring the advice of generals who have disagreed with them. One of these Republicans is name Bush, another is named Cheney and another is the now retired former Secretary Defense name Rumsfeld.
If these Republicans had listened to the generals who disagreed with them we might not be in the mess in Iraq that we got ourselves into and no one would have be trying to find a way out of that mess.
Democrats saying they would wait for the Peterus Report before making a decision did not necessarily mean they would accept his recommendations. In light of the administration reaction to the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission, expecting that the Democrats to accept Peterus's recommendations as their decision definitely appears to be a case of, "Do as I say, not as I do."
For the Dems to make major inroads in both the Congress and Senate in 2008, US policy in Iraq has to fail, sad but true. That way the Dems can say, I told you so...The failures of Bush/Rumsfield to do something like this aggressive swarming on the terrorists for 3 years gives the Dems plenty of ammo too I'm afraid.
Its like how any decent economic news is bad for the Democrat party...this is one sad state of affairs and I do not really predict much political improvement in the future. It'd be nice to close ranks and finish this as a nation but it won't be done unless its withdrawal is the only plan...
