When people think of "detox" they often think of Lindsay Lohan or some other starlet with alcohol problems entering a rehab center. "Detoxing" is nothing more than "detoxification," or removing poisons from your body. In Lindsay's case, alcohol is the poison. Rock stars and supermodels also enter detox programs for their cocaine or heroin addictions.
Do you have to be a famous star with a drug problem to need detoxification? Absolutely not. If you live on Earth, you have subjected yourself to a number of environmental poisons that are collecting in your body as we speak. Depending on your diet, you can be ingesting more or less than those around you.
Other factors can make one more or less susceptible to toxins, like age, where you live, whether or not you smoke, even where you work.
These environmental poisons enter your body through your mouth and nose as you breathe, through your skin by the things you touch, and through your digestive system as you eat and drink. They collect in your lungs, bloodstream, and internal organs. Your kidney and liver are especially targeted, as it is their job to flush toxins out of your body.
For the most part, they do a decent job. However, it is prudent to undergo a more thorough cleansing from time to time. Ridding yourself of excess toxins is how you "detox your body" and you can do it in your own home.
