Hi, Marianne--Thank you for that. You need to know I'm thankful for the opportunities I'm given, daily, to sense life and revel in the expression of it. John refers to "our creative lives", and the "chance" he speaks to is the random pattern of the pebble's path. As artists we step in to help the gravity-animated fellow along, if for no other reason than to get what messages are there, out to as large an audience as possible. And hopefully, with a modicum of wisdom and some soul-stirring wit.
Thank you, Kate. I agree with you. I just reread the poem and remembered my thought process the day it was written--"How little we know when we begin a journey how large or small the impact will be!" I remember laughing at how the pebble changed the face of the sand, forever, with its windblown scribble.
