For a moment I saw what might be
Standing there on the edge
Carelessly,
Staring into foolishness,
Teetering,
But then loving arms
Throughout the day
Drew me to the warmth
Of belonging;
First, calloused hands
Brought me a simple cup of coffee;
Warmth.
Tenderness reached
Emeralds and diamonds
that looked lovingly at
me
Drawing
me
Further still.
They each came today
From their distances
And their differences,
Each blessing formed in me, of us.
The eldest made grits, with eggs and cheese
As he sat awhile, laughing
As only he can;
Charismatic, illuminating,
And then our priceless pixie
Woave her giggles
Intricately around my heart
And drew me further still;
Alas, the moral one,
The chosen one, came,
And when I would fight
To stay in the prison I had made
For myself alone,
He encouraged me,
His spirit kindred to . . .
What I remembered I once was,
And then suddenly
I was there,
We all were,
And there is
Nothing more
beautiful.
Only one thought haunts me.
I think across the waves of lonliness
The depths of heartache
Where widows weep alone,
Where no one ever comes home,
And I am so ashamed
Of what I have taken
So for granted.
I would like to ask you a favor. I have entered my first novel in the First Chapters Romance Contest and would appreciate your consideration. Only votes of ten are counted in the final tally. If you read it and like it, I would appreciate your 10 rating. Thank you for taking a peek.
