Have you ever been in an earthquake?

Today we had a 4.7 earthquake in Southern California.  My friend and I were sitting in my living room and we started to feel some shaking and we both looked at each other to figure out what it was.  Quickly we realized that we were having an earthquake and grabbed our dogs and then soon enough it was over.  Started as a slight rumble and then it got a bit worse and then stopped.  No damage to speak of and nothing seemed to shift in our house. But all I know is that when one starts shaking, all you can do is wait to see if it gets worse and thank God it didn't! 

So, have you ever been in an earthquake or some other natural disaster?

I have been in 3 fairly major earthquakes.

Get those tremors all the time- felt that one too. It only made the furniture squeak and the lampshade swing here. I grew up in the Caribbean, so I have been through a couple of hurricanes and tropical storms.

I was in San Francisco the day of the 89' quake, so yes. Hearing that the Bay Bridge had collapsed when it was only a rumor (with no phones and TV working) was eery. It was hours before we knew our loved ones were okay. Was in a highrise in SF during a 1985 quake (7 point something) where the building rolled like a ride at an amusement partk. Give me earthquakes over tornadoes and hurricanes any day though.

I've been in a couple of little ones and a 6.8? in the Seattle area. Sounded like a freight train.

No, but my parents called from Disneyland yesterday. They had worked their way up towards the head of the line for Splashdown (a log ride I think) when the earthquake hit. They said it was a 1 something. But the rides closed temporarily.

The closest that I have come to a natural disaster was while video taping from the beach (of Lake Michigan), a tornado dipped out of a cloud and then went back up into it. It was trying to form, but was not able to. Thank God. Have you ever tried to run in sand?
I'm going to have to turn the news on. I haven't seen it in days.

Hello,

A long time ago I was in an earthquake that rated 6.5 on the richter scale. I saw a crack form from the ceiling all the way down to the floor on one wall of the house I was in. Very scary indeed.

Yes, I lived in Tornado alley to as you know and even though I have not seen a tornado, boy did I have a scare when the sirens went off. Never seen weather like that in my life! It was pretty amazing though!

I have experienced several earthquakes living in California all my life. I was in Tahoe, when the big earthquake hit the Bay Area, and felt it up there. The hanging plant was swinging. I was on the highway the highway that collapsed the day prior.

I have been in a hurricane.. but no earthquake, but i can imagine its just as bad..
We were in a small earthquake when we lived in San Jose a few years ago. Fortunately for us, by the time we figured out what was going on, it was over. Nothing worse than a few things falling off the cupboard shelves.
On my first trip to Costa Rica there was an earthquake. Living in Minnesota- you don't experience them much, so it was an eye opener for me & my best friend! It wasn't centered in the city we were in, but farther away, but still the whole city of San Jose felt it!

We had an earthquake here a few years back. I remember waking up at 5 am and I felt like my bed was rolling. It was a weird sensation. I've also been in and around several tornados.

Wow, I just experienced my first 5.4 about 49 minutes ago! What a trip. I was sitting at my computer desk at 5:30 am and it started as a shaking but continued to build and then the the house seemed to sway side to side for about 30 seconds or so. The pictures were swinging on their nails a bit and it rattled the dishes and slid around a few nick-nacks. Nothing broken thankfully but it awakened my husband and son from a deep sleep.
I know this is nothing for you guys out in California but this is the biggest one here in many decades. We sit on the New Madrid Fault in Kentucky. A bit scary while it was going on but quite an interesting experience now.

In the course of my almost 67 years, I've been in 7 earthquakes.
Unbelievably, I have not even received a scratch.

God looks after fools, and I'm proof I guess.

Just tremors in Japan . One or two tremors in Iowa .

We have tremors every now and then, but we live in tornado alley so those are a bigger concern here.
