The scriptures states that Cain took a wife, and settled in the land of Nod. I have heard several opinions on how Cain found a wife. One man told me that Cain married a monkey, and founded the black race. This is impossible for two reasons. Reproduction never occurs when men sleep with animals. Also the children of Cain died in the flood. Noah was a descendant of Cain’s brother, Seth.
Another theory I’ve heard was that God created a separate race of people. If this had happened, it would have been recorded in Genesis. Some claim that Cain married a woman from another planet.
These theories are a result of making the simple complicated. Cain married his sister. Genesis 5:4 states that Adam begat sons and daughters. The opponents of this theory claim that this would be incest. But at this time in history, it was a common practice. Abraham married his half sister. Isaac and Jacob married their first cousins. As the population grew, God condemned this practice. This law came about during the days of Moses. Read the eighteenth chapter of Leviticus.
You may disagree with my opinion, and that’s fine with me. Growing up in church, I had always been taught that Cain and Seth married their sisters. To me this made sense because only one family exsisted at the time. In the last few years the issue of Cain’s wife has become a topic of mystery and debate. But I believe that all these other theories are byproducts of human philosophy.
